I'm flying from one to the other in a couple of weeks and wanted to get an idea how good the watch shops are in both airports.
I'm thinking of getting another Seadweller and I'm wondering how much they are from duty free
thanks

There are no Rolex shops in Gatwick. I expect Geneva duty free is a similar price to UK duty free.

I tried to get a decent price on a Planet Ocean at Geneve a month or 2 ago and the woman point blank refused to give me anything less than the 7% duty free discount which left the watch priced at over 1800 GBP. It seemed like there were absolutely no deals to be had at all frown

When i passed through London Heathrow T3 in June, Mappin and Webb were doing Sea Dwellers for 2650gbp as apposed to 3280gbp in the AD, suffice to say they didnt have one in at the time, they did have a sub in at 2375gbp. Now that is good duty free prices.

Geneva 'watch centre' and the Rolex outlet in the airport hasn't ever been significantly cheaper than elsewhere, has it? I've always popped in every time I'm there on the off-chance that there's something rare on display (nope) but the prices have always seemed, well, normal...

I also found them extremely unhelpful in Geneva, 7.40 at night and all they gave a toss about was going home, wouldn't spend my money there even if it was cheaper

cheers for the info, looks like I'll head into Geneva for a while instead of wasting my time at the airport

Switzerland is not a cheap place for watches. Looked at IWC big pilot in Zug, Zurich airport and T5 was cheaper

Shop around in Geneva itself not at the airport. They will knock the tax off anyway provided you hand in the paperwork at the airport. Pay cash if you can, it should make a difference

Any particular places you can recommend? I'm only flying through there on my way back to blighty so I'm not intent on spending lots of time there

AirPort Watch Center in Geneva will give big discounts

but they wont if you just turn up there, anyway unless you want something really standard it takes them a week to get anything in

Just email them the details of what you are after

If you want high end stuff go to Gubelin in Place du Molard which will even give you a discount on Patek

But then youre very unlikely to get big discounts if you tell them well in advance what your desire is. The art of negotiation is the ability to walk away at the drop of a hat, once you have already told them what you are after, then they have the upper hand and know that is what you want and are unlikely to offer much. If they have had to get it in special then there is even less chance of discount.

Not so sure, last thing I bought at AWC I just sent them an email saying I was willing to pay 25% off Swiss Duty Free list on a BigBang and they said fine

thanks for that, it's only a seadweller so it's not really that exclusive - will send them a mail and see what they come up with. If it's comparable to used prices (which aren't cheap IMO) then I may as well buy new.
