Help - Breitling & AD problem
Discussion
Gents,
I need some advice.
I recently took my chronomat evolution (1year old) to an AD as i have had numerous problems, including: Date wheel sticking, no charge and evenually watch stopping!
During the run through of problems, they note down all marks on the watch and i was happy with the description.
I recieved a letter in the post (not even the coutesy of a call) detailing they had heard back from the manufacture and they had stated " NB: This watch has been dropped. Upper case and riders dented. Maintenance required. Mechanical maintenance service £165 - Let us know if you want to proceed with this work, blah blah blah"
I have NEVER dropped the watch and the inspection performed shows only minor scratches on the case.
I've called to complain but conviniently the service department was unavailable.
Any thoughts on how i should proceed as i am now really nervous that:
a) they wont fix the watch under warranty
b) since it left my care something awful has happened to my watch.
thanks in advance
alex

Come on guys and gals,
I am going nuts here.
Just spoken with AD again. Breitling are refusing to do the work under warranty insisting the watch has had damage caused by me!
They are "kindly" doing the work at a reduced rate but thats my choice - pay up or dont get the watch fixed.
As a final insult, i have just been told that they have NO customer service arm and wont engage with me directly. No phone calls, no email with the only touch point being letters.
Given they have already quoted an addittional 6 weeks this could become a protracted and v.heated discussion!
any advice pleeeeeeeease.

I know this is turning into a personal diary but i have an update for anyone interested:
I managed to speak with Breitling UK service and they are shocked that my AD has said no contact directly. In addittion, the price differs between what was quoted at the AD and what was quoted by Breitling - given the info specifically stipulates P&P N/A i will be questioning this.
The service from Bretling directly has been superb, they will be taking photos to send me and discuss how to move forward.
Some faith has been restored but it looks like the AD may have damaged the watch!
Should be fun to try and sort out ........

Did you get this written up, and a copy made for you? make sure you make copies of everything and get a contact in Breitling UK to forward all documentation to.May be worth contacting CAB regarding how to progress with AD?
Good luck anyway,
This is quite amusing!! Not at the expense of the poster Alexe I Might add.:-)
For a rugged watch the Chronomat Evolution is advertised as a sturdy 300m water resistant watch , strong sapphire glareproof crystal etc etc and for quite a price tag...£3500 ish??
Surely a watch of this type would be man enough to withstand a drop onto an average floor from say 5 feet?
Obvioulsy I am making assumptions here!! Watches are dropped and movements are designed to withstand knocks and bumps along the way!!
Just seems another way of fleecing the owners of so-called premier brand watches from yet more hard earned!!

I have copies of all the paperwork and the AD actually sent a copy with the watch.
Breitling agree there is a discrepancy between what it details and the condition of the watch they have in front of them.
While I haven’t dropped the watch, I am also disappointed that such action should be deemed enough to break it. It IS sold on the idea of being v.sturdy.
However, not sure I find it amusing at this stage. To be honest, I’m sure it’s the same with all manufacturers of automatics. My Hamilton Khaki ETO (Quartz) never misses a beat and takes a real beating!!!
Any one had any experience of a watch breaking/faltering due to moderate shock or accidents?
