Why is it that when you wear a Breitling that you've worked hard to pay for. People automatically think its a fake whenever they see it?

Which Breitling? I've got to say that some of 'em are just a little [pauses to try to find right words] "over the top" for my liking, to the point that I can kind of see how some people not familiar with the range might get a bit suspicious and call "fake" just on that score.

I'm not seeking to denigrate anyones taste here by the way, there's always room for a bit of exuberance if someone's got the self-confidence to carry it off, and the world would be boring if everybody liked the same thing but it is one of the things which I can imagine might prompt that response.

I agree that with some you really wouldn't know - unless you are 'in-the-know' if you see what I mean - if you are looking at a fake or the real thing, so good (or bad, depending on your point of view) are some of the fakes being produced.

Add that to the fact they are well known for being an expensive watch and people tend to assume your average Joe wouldn't have an original. Based on their own standards no doubt.

My 1980's Aerospace is very understated and I think as a consequence nobody who's seen it has ever asked if its a fake.

The bottom line though is your mates think you're a tight-ass. Sorry whistle

I think that while its natural for more prestigious (but still widely known) brands to be targeted by the fake industry, this might be more of a reflection on your mates. Are they really just assuming that no-one like them bothers to save up for a decent watch? Not suggesting they're a bunch of tight gits or anything but maybe they're more used to spending their cash on cars, computers or going to the pub? I'd be slightly comforted by the thought that you're less likely to have it pinched if people assume it's a fake. In any case every time you look it at you'll know it's real and be pleased with it all over again wink

The comments you received are in my experience based on ignorance and jealousy, best ignore such folk.

ok im usually....diplomatic on style. each to his own and all that. different people can pull off different styles, etc.

but imho Breitlings are horrid, horrid blingy nastiness with very little exception.

Sure they are expensive and have nice movements. But so, when you think about it, does a Project Khan Range Rover Sport or one of those other awful bling-up tuner brands. Doesnt make it nice.

/edit because i cant spell.

Couldnt agree more, they are fecking horrible, as has been said its the bling that makes them look fake. Every time I walk passed a display of them I have to shield my eyes, they are just so well... naff (make that blingy).

But each to their own!

Not all of them. Some of the more basic aviator chronographs (Old Navitimer?) are lovely - the trouble is that it's the Blingy ones which seem to be in demand and hence get put in the window. Mind you, I'm dreadfully conservative, in my book the definitive chronograph is the Heuer Carrera and that's so low key it's almost invisible smile

I have to disagree.

Granted, my point of view is biased (as a chronomat evolution owner) but I believe that a number of brands people advocate on this forum are a LOT more "bling" than Breitling.

Breitling bashing appears to have become a favourite sport and people just keep on jumping on the wagon.

With reference to the OP. I know what you mean!

However, if like me, you have friends in diffent financial positions, its not easy for them to understand that you would part with £££ for a watch when they are struggling to cover the rent.

Just like you purchased the watch for your own reasons, wear it and enjoy it for your own reasons.

Just my thoughts.

What does it matter what others think as long as you know its real, then nothing should worry you. I live and work in a country that has a replica watch shop on virtually every corner of every street. When i wear my Navitimer and the owners of these shops are generally standing outside chatting to each other, they will always shout to me to show them my watch, they can tell its real from 10 metres, they have eyes like hawks.

To be honest i couldnt give a sh!t what anyone else thinks about it, its mine i love it, thats it.

I was wearing my Werners watch the other day when my father-in-law asked me if I'd got it from 'that street market' in spain. He thought it was a fake. A fake of what I thought, an £80 watch rolleyes

Anyone would think I had a reputation for being a tight ass biggrin

Are you talking about the gold versions? Our AD seems to have a window full of gold and part gold Breitlings and they look horrid. Are these the pieces they can't sell?

If you want to see OTT bling, the AD showed me the Diamonworks catalogue the other day. £90k for a gold Breitling encrusted in diamonds, no thanks!

This is why Breitling users get accused of having fakes so much. It's a very blinging brand. IMO a 42mm model without polished steel and a leather band is a awesomely good looking watch!

Especially blue leather.
