Richard Mille Watches
Discussion
As sported by Fernando Alonso, i love the look of these watches but they are phenominal money.
Does anyone know much about them? I assume that at the prices, there must be very few of them around. Are they all handmade?
Not sure how i'd feel with a £140,000 watch on my wrist! (apart from successful!!)

They are not all that much. They start around £25,000.
www.watches.co.uk has a second hand one for £13k. BOY was I tempted!
Gorgeous, and to those who know, a sign of impeccable taste.

Or you could have this one for half a million Euros...

What makes you say this? (genuinely interested, not having a go!)With regards to reading at a glance, I've got an RM005 and it's perfectly legible and "works" as a design on the wrist.
My favourite watch by far.
cheers,
sw

What makes you say this? (genuinely interested, not having a go!)Though to be fair I've never actually seen or handled one, so that is a distinctly unqualified opinion.
from a design point of view i think they are 'amazing' as it looks more like art and you have to admire the amount of work that has gone into them. I admit some are more difficult to read but the more mainstream ones like the RM005 and RM10 are quite easy to tell time with!
The more amazing pieces like The RM12 and RM009 are really stunning pieces but less easy to tell time with, i suppose along the same lines as the Parmigiani 'Bugatti' watch which costs around £130,000

What makes you say this? (genuinely interested, not having a go!)It's subtle and doesn't shriek money, unlike virtually every new watch model being presented by smaller (and most of the big ones, sadly) manufactures these days. It's not big, it's not 'blingy' and it's something you could choose in titanium or steel with a plain black leather strap and wear every day without attracting undue attention (other from RM lovers with eagle eyes, of course!). I can't imagine a Patek annual or perpetual in anything other than yellow gold, for some reason (regardless of the fact that they are available in other metals) and apart from my opposite viewpoint (I haven't yet seen a Patek that spins my wheel... I just don't find the exteriors *that* exciting, sadly - the movements are sublime but as I don't like the looks of the vast majority I've seen, I will probably never buy one, because they're a hell of a lot more expensive than their competitors and I have to really *desire* an expensive watch to even consider it) - IMO the Patek is less flexible. Unless you spend your entire life in the sort of social circles where a gold Patek would be an appropriate match to your attire - the RM can be worn with anything.
Then again people with money to afford such watches probably don't consider these sorts of practicalities But I don't think Richard Mille's watches are really direct competitors to Patek - certainly not in style, and probably not in intention either, unless you think to the contrary?
