I have just put my name down on a Daytona 116520. The sales girl told me that she reckons it will be 3 years to wait. Which is ok, as i am in no hurry at all, but is this really a true estimation? Do they ever say 3 years and then phone you up 6 months later to say "come get it"?

The wait on a Daytona has been 5-7 years for years. If it's down to 3, i'd be surprised. Supposedly, many dealers aren't taking new orders. You've done well to get on a list and if you get it in 3 years, i'd be surprised but delighted for you.

I paid a premium for one, being the impatient type wobble

Edit. I'm assuming this is a steel model? bimetal and gold models are easier to find ex stock, at below list prices. Steel on the other hand carries a premium confused

yeah it is the steel, black face. She said to me that only two allowed on the list, but as it was one buyer on a white face, and the other for a black face, she could get me on.

I did think about paying the extra to get it quicker, but i dont think i can justify it. I may break in 12 months time maybe. smile

They told me the waiting time had reduced on them.. I suppose now, i just have to forget i have it on order as it will drive me crazy!..smile

Would you say you made the right choice in watch, no regrets?

It is (IMO) a truly fabulous watch, hence i was willing to pay the premium i did. Given my age, i was playing the odds biggrin
I was going to sell it very recently, mine is the earlier model with 'slim hands'. However a chat with Rolex service see's the watch being returned next week for the 'fat hands' upgrade. It will look just like the current model and following last years service, is like new again. I'm getting quite exited laugh

Not entirely sure, but i think last year, possibly prior to that. Mine was serviced last November and the technician seemed surprised i'd not gone for the 'upgrade' then. I didn't 'cos i didn't know about it.

You need a current and older model together, to actually appreciate the difference.

Why on earth do you want to change your (limited production) thin hands watch to a fat hands one?

The 'slim hands' models are in no way limited. Daytona hands were all the same until the revised 'fat hands' model was introduced. I'm having them changed to allow me to keep it. My vision is such now, that without reading glasses i can't see the time. The 'fat hands' will hopefully solve that problem. If not, it will be for sale, again frown

Was in Ernest Jones today when some guy comes in and asks to be added to the Daytona waiting list. He didn't even ask how long the wait was, he just seemed determined to get his name added. Walked out looking a bit disgruntled when they told him the list was full.

Could you please PM me the dealer details, been trying to get on a list for a while?

Seen a few steel sports Daytonas in Schaap Citroen in Amsterdam and in 2 of the numerous watch shops along and around the Konigsallee, Dusseldorf.

Even with the euro being as strong as it is a few phone calls and a cheap flight could see you owning one for considerably less than the premium demanded by unofficial dealers.

Sure they're not the (near) identical white gold models? Unlikely that there's a 'few' SS models for sale in any one place, anywhere.

Have you been to Konigsallee? There were 2 seperate shops both which had steel Daytonas in. It's probably the richest shopping area in the whole of europe and has more watch shops than you can shake a stick at. At least 4 Rolex ADs in a very small area.
If I hadn't just bought a 50th Anniversary Moonwatch I'd have bought one for resale if nothing else.

I've been on Ernest Jones' list since Dec 2001. Still no sign of the bloody thing.

Fair enough, just that the whole world is looking for these things and there're 4 in one small location! Forgive my suspicion, but are they for sale at MRRP? Or for a huge mark-up?

There were not 4 of them available- there are at least 4 Rolex authorised dealers, 2 of which had steel daytonas at list.

Schaap+Citroen Amsterdam also had one but that was a fluke as the dealer principle explained to me.

I did suspect they might have been displayed to get people into the stores but I didn't call their bluff by buying one.

For what it's worth the daytona is becoming less desireable IMO as can be seen by the premiums payable for them dropping.

Dealer 2 watch was brand new, ready to go and had been placed in the window that morning. As he was an AD they can ONLY sell at list price.

First dealer I just looked in the window and didn't talk to but have to assume that if it's on display it's good to go.

Since you are virtually guaranteed £1k profit on each, why on earth not buy them?

I'd just dropped 5.5 grand on Omega Speedie Anniversary and was maxxed out.

You'd be surprised what robbing watch dealers will offer you for a BNIB watch like that anyway. Wasn't bothered getting my knickers in a twist over a few hundred which is what it would turn out to be.

However if anyone here really wants one they could try Dusseldorf as a potential source of supply. Got to be worth a ring.
