Had my Rolex GMTII for 8 years now, its my daily wearer, its never been serviced... recently the power reserve seems to be getting shorter and shorter... barely lasts for 24 hours now when off my wrist (used to be OK for about 48) - would a service sort that out?

On the subject of servicing, as I live in central London, would I be better off dropping it at Rolex in Bond St or should I just take it to Mappin & Webb over the road from my office - assume taking it to M&W will be more expensive as they will want a cut?

I think it's a five year average for service, so it's overdue.

Where to take is a no brainer imo, Rolex St James directwink

Similar thing happened to my GMT Master. I reckon it was 5/6 years old at the time and it would just not keep a wind. Was OK on my wrist during the day but when unworn overnight (even if on a winder) it had stopped by the morning.

Had it serviced and it's been fine since.

they have like a coil inside that springs the watch to keep the seconds going. over time it stretches out resulting to a less acurate and a lesser power reserve. if you over wind it. (more than 15 times) it should hold but it is best to take it in for a service because an excessive overwind will result the spring to snap.
