If you have the bracelet removed youll be able to read the serial number between one set of lugs and the model number between the other. The model number will give an indication of the period (along, more importantly, with the calibre used) and the case serial number will identify approximately the year/period of production. Youll be able to find many sites referring to the case serials using Google.
If you want it serviced and possibly a new dial, take or send it to Rolex in St James' London, or the Bexley, Kent, service centre. I'd guess at £150'ish for a service and valet plus up to £100 for a dial.
It will look like a new one upon return, so if the watch is important to you, it's money well spent. My guess is 70's vintage.
(nice rivet bracelet on that btw, quite desireable by itself )
Let me know if you decide to sell it?

That's actualy a realy nice watch - I'd get it in for service, check with Rolex about the date of production and purchase.
Am I correct in thining that is some sort of stone dial?
I think that's the problem, afaik that should be 'solid' black, maybe grey. Can't really tell from the picture angle.Am I correct in thining that is some sort of stone dial?
