Sacrifice one watch to buy two new ones?
Discussion
I've been hankering after a Sinn UX for a while now and after stumbling across an Anonimo Wayfarer for sale, I'd quite like one of those too. No way I can afford to spend £2k plus on anything, or for that matter, even £1k but if I were to sell one of my existing watches, I could splash out. The trouble is, every watch I have is a watch I like. None of them are surplus to requirement (although, technically, all of them are surplus to requirement) and I love having all of them even if I only wear a couple regularly. The only one that I can see myself selling, and which would provide sufficient funds, is probably my '99 16610 Sub but I don't know if I should. I like it, and when I've worn it I really enjoyed it and I know it's going to keep its value much better than the others but it would mean adding two quite individual watches which I really like to my collection. What do people reckon?
If you are worried about residual value then hang on to the Sub. I'd suggest saving up for the Sinn and getting it that way rather than trading what you have (unless you have no emotional attachment to the Sub or you can afford to let it go).
IMO the Anonimo (nice as they are) will not hold onto its value to the same extent as the Sub. Heck, give it a few more years and your Sub may well become collectable...

Seb,
I sold a fantastic Omega Seamaster GMT and a flawless IWC Mk XV to get my Zenith and regretted it ever since. Not that I don't love the Zenith, but I can't believe I was stupid enough to get rid of two great watches (and get relative pennies for them) just to buy another one.
I'd always recommend saving up. No matter how long it takes it'll only sweeten the moment when you can actually go and buy what you want. (Also, by the time you've got the money you might find something you want even more!)
Cheers,
Animal

Some good points there, thanks. It's definitely one of those things that I don't want to rush into only to regret later and then not be able to afford to buy another Sub! Nice to hear from some level-headed people to put things into perspective I do have a Tudor that I keep meaning to sell so at least the cash from that can go towards something.
I totally agree - save up.
I bought my first Sub when I was 17. It travelled the world with me, when into some very "inhospiable" places on my wrist, came to my weeding day with me and several funerals, and was with me on several occaisions when my life almost came to an end - and then I sold it.
The first day or two was ok, I had a new Breitling and an Omega to play with. Then it hit me, and I really did feel as though I'd betrayed an old friend.
Damn! How the hell did i get so sentimental over a piece of metal? I don't know, but I do know that I've regretted it's loss every day.
SAVE UP!!!
