They may clamp down on the obvious fakes, but the top replicas - not a chance. Unless eBay open the back of every Rolex that's sold through them, ha ha ha.
This sort of 'clampdown' is very dangerous because at the moment, the replica guys are selling their products (which are near as dammit identical) as 'replicas' at much reduced prices. Remove this, and more sellers will sell as 'genuine' watches at 'genuine' prices - and anyone without a Bergeon caseback opener (or a cheap copy) will be none the wiser... which is a much worse situation for everyone, Rolex included.

I once read an article on high-end fraud, watches worth £100,000+ and they are so well made that virtually the only way to verify that they are fakes is to send them to the manufacturers in Switzerland and even then they can still be almost undetectable.
in which case, does it matter...........??The fakes really have moved on a setp.
I was offered an IWC 3717 a few weeks ago off a 'friend' who claimed it had been robbed from a jewlers.
He wanted £400 quid for it. I've got the pilots chrono and it was the same case and bracelet.
After doing some digging on the serial number i found http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&th=... (if you scroll down for pics).
The only tell tale signs it was a fake were the bronze pins on the sub dials and the fake serial number.
The concensus is that the fakes are being fitted with genuine straps which was usually the give away sign.
