Went to the AD today to make more enquiries about a brown strap so that I can swap when I feel like it.

Didn't have the short length straps and they didn't have any type of clasp - all have to be ordered and will take around 45 days to turn up.

Oh... and for the pleasure of a nice lengthy wait, they'd like to take $640.00 off my hands.

I have to say this is shocking - both the delivery time and the cost.

Very disappointed.

I know this is not Glashutte's fault - more the AD here in Dubai that can take the piss, well, because they can - benefits of a monopoly.

Little bit of thread drift here but on a similar vein, i work in Vietnam so was in Saigon on Sunday and popped into one of the major department stores there, "Daimond Plaza" and found a shop selling Rolex, so i ventured in to see if they could supply a Sea Dweller, "sorry" came the reply, "we dont have any", so i asked if they has a Sub, "yes in the display cabinet" she says. "How much", off she trots to pick up the obligatory calculator and dials in US$7500. I laughed and told her she was joking, i could get one for US4400 in departures in London, she told me i was having to pay luxury tax to purchase this watch in Vietnam. Luxury in Vietnam?!, the 2 words are a universe apart, how are they allowed to do that, i wonder if Rolex know. I doubt that Rolex really care as they were not an AD as there are none over here, but even so that takes the biscuit for over charging.

Yeah - that sounds about right.

Made a call to an AD on Bond Street as I'm staying there shortly. They have a 2 week wait and, get this..... will cost around $1,000.

Bugger me with a fishfork!

I'm going to have to get one as just having the black strap limits its use as one simply cannot wear a black strap with brown shoes!

There is that and I do mostly wear black shoes for business but quite a few of my smart casual shoes are tan etc... and I do want to wear the watch in less formal environs.

Oh well...

Missus will have to do without food for a few days.

Do you really need to buy the OEM strap? I know it is nice to have, but as they tend to need replacing a couple of times a year (especially if you sweat a lot), I buy the OEM deployant mechanism and aftermarket straps.

Asterix, have a look here...

www.camillefournet.com/

A wild selection of materials, top quality workmanship and can make to order. Expensive yes, but better and less $$ than OE GO.

Turquoise Alligator anyone?
