Looked at Anonimo is some detail today and am waiting for a definitive catalogue to wing it's way to me.
Via the website http://www.anonimouk.com/ and a chat with a dealer, i'm taken by the Millemetri with a black dial £1450 rrp and £1950 with a bracelet. (Without the 10 year anniversary logo)
The alternative, because its quirky is the Militare Automatico, assuming it's available with a black dial and a bracelet, rrp £1950 on a strap.
Now i know the 'connection' to Panerai, which is exactly why i'm looking, but anybody own one and have first hand experience. There are only a handful of dealers and no discounts.
I'm relatively newly into watches and don't get off on the movements but if more than half the worlds watch makers use generic swiss movements, condemed by a few here, is that bad or good?

A friend of mine has a "Zulu Time" He wears it nearly all the time and the Breitling has been consigned to the watch box for the time being. I've worn it myself and it's a good solid watch with a nice feel to it. It's one of those watches that just "feels right" if you know what I mean.
Can't help withe the others I'm afraid as I've only ever seen the one.

can anybody explain what is the link between Anonimo and Panerai ???
thx

Don't know how much is fact and how much is rumour but Anonimo apparently use (some of) the same premises/tools/people that made Panerais in Italy before they relocated the company to Switzerland.thx

Funnily enough I was in Jura Watches on Wednesday afternoon looking at the Anonimo Militare Automatico. As nice as it is, I think I'd rather have a Panerai Luminor Marina
I notice that watches.co.uk have a couple of Anonimos in stock but I am a little wary of the residual values. Look at the difference between RRP and the sale prices and work out what their bid would have been to the original owner.
Although I've bought my watches because I like them and not as an investment, and without wishing to get into a residuals thread (there's enough of that on the Porsche forum), for some reason Panerai seem to hold their value better than Anonimo.

I suppose this is partly my dilema tbh. I went shopping for a Panerai a few weeks ago and came home with an IWC . I notice that watches.co.uk have a couple of Anonimos in stock but I am a little wary of the residual values. I really like the Panerai look but got a bit paranoid reading some of the posts by cyberface about who uses which movements, and that most watchmakers actually aren't. They're component assemblers. Panerai do hold their value better but the Anonimo's are cheaper to start, though the percentage loss is probably still greater.
I have an eye for non mainstream, so Panerai, Anonimo and others get my interest going. Probably better to wait on a Panerai but then need to sell my pesky Daytona first
The Anonimo range use ETA movements (7750 and plus some other Dubois Dupraz-modified units) so there's really not that much difference from Panerai. Unless you're going high end IWC, JLC or AP then you'll find that most brands are using stock movements. Even the IWC Pilot (not the Big Pilot though) and Spitfire chronos use 7750's that have been modified (not sure to what extent) by IWC.
I too want something a little less mainstream but I'm not sure Anonimo is right for me. If I bought one I'd still be hankering after a Panerai. That said, right now, I still want an IWC Aquatimer, an IWC Big Pilot's Watch, an AP ROO, etc etc.
I may pull the trigger on a Panerai Marina very soon but I have a feeling that if I come across the right watch at the right price, it could be anything...

If you go to the Anonimo website they give their history.

Indeed. Fully aware of their pedigree and history, i have a 2008 catalogue and CD on my desk. The question remains though, is the Panerai/Anonimo dilema the same in principal for instance, as the Jaguar/Ford debate, when the Mondeo platform is shared but the Jaguar is perceived as better, though not in reality, especially when it comes to residuals?Danny
