I'm afraid I can't help you on price or negotiating stance - I've never dealt with watches.co.uk.

I can say they're a stunning watch (I have it with a black face) in the metal and your brother is extraordinarily lucky to have such a generous sibling!

Good luck with the search,

I've used watches.co.uk before and while they were very friendly and efficient, they made it clear there was no room for bargaining.

That sounds expensive to me for a S/H one, official retail price new is £5900 but with a bit of haggling, I am told, you should be able to get 20% off that. Reason I say 'I am told' is that I bought my 18ct Portuguese Chrono Auto in Barbados and got a 30% discount, so I am going by what others have said in the past here with regard to UK buying.

Give Simon of Berry's Jewellers in Leeds a call and see what price he will do for you - 0113 245 4797

I and a few others have bought our IWC watches from him, great to deal with and competitively priced.

Jules.

Just wondering why that particular model is more exoensve than the chrono?? Is it because of the glass back or to do with the quality of movement????

The Portuguese automatic 5001-- features the IWC 5000 calibre movement, which an in-house prestige movement. The regular Portuguese chrono 3714,features a heavily reworked Valjoux calibre 7750 movement. Still a great watch, I have the 371401....

If I recall, I bought this same watch in the US at an IWC dealer for less that £4000.

A combination of good exchange rate, a healthy discount and they knocked of local sales tax made this a good deal.
