Looking for a new watch.
Quite like the look of the B&R 03-92 (smaller version).
I've managed to arrange discount on a new one but it's still going to be almost £2k.

Other option is the Omega Seamaster but the only problem with this watch, looks too similar to my Sub. I guess the untrained eye would think they looked the same.

Thoughts?

IMHO - of those 2, i'd have the omega.

nothing against B&R - i'm sure it's a very well-made watch, but i just don't like the look of it.

IMHO, I'd have the Omega Planet Ocean, but not the Bond Limited edition pictured.. B&R have never floated my boat, so to speak.

Of those, I'd pick the B&R. I'm sure I'm in a minority, but the PO's dont really do anything for me, fascinating as the co-axial escapement is. That said, I wouldnt worry about the untrained eye thinking you have the same/a variation of the same watch. The vibe I've always picked up is totally different, even at ten paces.

I B&R would drive me potty as the screws really need to be symetrical!

Ha Ha - or lined up in a circle like the AP ROO.

I recently went through a Panerai vs B&R BR01-92 decision. Many viewings and much discussion with friends/colleagues/this board and I came to the conclusion that beyond the visual impact and the utilitarian looks (which I love BTW), they are simply not worth the money. As my brother put it 'it just does not look like £2000 worth'.

Although they are very trendy right now, the B&R uses a very basic ETA movement, does not have much in the way of heritage like the great manufactures, the BR03 has a plastic strap (though the BR01 comes with leather) and will be (I think) in the long run a bit underwhelming.

I'm sure they are very well made, though if they were really well made the screw heads would align/match etc.

This is of course my personal view (no offence B&R fans) and the conclusion I came to over a drawn out period of considering a purchase. Given the choice, mine would be the Omega. I still love the design of my (now 11 year old) SMP Auto.

Following on from Spice Weasel's comment above a friend bought a B&R and was to start with very pleased with it. That lasted a month and I haven't seen him wear it for ages now; he's back to his sub and I haven't dared broach the subject yet. | do find them somewhat in your face and agree that they are perhaps a passing fashion like the U boat range. Anyway, does it really matter? It's your choice but I sense from your first post you are more swayed by tradition and heritage than style. Have you looked at an IWC Spitfire by the way? Just a thought.

Don, I have one of the original BR03-92 Orange limited editions (limited to 250 pieces). Had about 5 hours of wrist time, interested?

Neither do 99% of Panerai watches. Both are in the same category for me. Both are ETA movement fashion watches from companies that despite trying to make out otherwise have only been making watches for the last few years.

you need to get out more biggrin

PO for me every time - just don't like the B&R does nothing for me. But I suppose the world would be a duller place if we all liked the same - go for what "speaks" to you

yeh but 2k is cheap for a Panerai - and their second hand values are outrageous. I really do not understand the Panerai thing; they are nice but not 'that nice'.

Definetly the Omega! Personally I hate the 007 limited editions, the proper one is so much better. That Omega is beautiful but spoilt by the little 007 bit. All imho of course!

Good lad....

Danny, I'm not really in the market for one currently - I really, really want one, and your kind is on the short list, but more Xmas time I am thinking!
