I recall recently reading about someone on this forum wanting info on where to obtain Richard Mille watches - may have been somewhere on the PH wrist-check thread?

Anyway, I stumbled across this RM005 whilst browsing Bonhams auction catalogue. The auction takes place next week in their Bond Street saleroom. Wednesday 11th June. It's lot 161 and their estimate is £8000-£12000 yikes

Hope the info is useful, and happy bidding...biggrin

I thought RM went for a lot more than that! I'd put it in the lottery win category, but 8K makes it much more reachable.

Stunning watches.

That's the power of marketing for you.... It's a very popular tactic, to publish a low estimate to generate interest in the piece. If there was a chance of buying it at £8k, you and I would get mown down in the stampede.....

Sexy watch, fantastic build quality and design. I like.

How true. And don't forget to add the 20% buyers premium to the final hammer price, and then there's usually VAT added to the premium as well.

I guess an £8-£12k estimate could quite easily become £20k+ on the day. All it needs is a couple of interested parties.

I really wouldn't be surprised if it went within estimate.

That last one I saw for sale in the UK was in a shop on/around Bond Street (can't remember exactly which) but is was about £17K. sold fairly quickly so I presume it went for around that.

would be around the correct markup for a dealer sale??

I got mine from a chap selling in USD but shipping from Spain. Made a big difference to the purchase price.

Damn you guys saying it'll be 'caught in the stampede'.... if it were genuinely available for 8-12k then cloud9

Lovely, lovely watchwink

Unfortunately it's now on a few PHers' radar by the looks of things - Desolate has one (and his is beautiful) - I want one but probably can't afford one, and Dom H the dealer is hunting round. No doubt if I showed massive interest then he'd bid it up to buy and resell to me at a profit!!!

;)

Err, not really. I'm still none the wiser about what a Richard Mille watch does/has that other top line watches don't. Do they include some new technical break through?

There are some arguments... does less than most top line watches. mine's made out of a non-precious metal. fairly average straps.

I wouldn't change mine for anything else.
work that out....

Desolate says 'non-precious metal' in typical understated fashion... check out the website and some of the technical detail... especially the materials used... a carbon nanofibre baseplate makes a steel ébauche look somewhat nineteenth century, don't you think?wink

Cyber, if I could buy the RM005 for £8k, I wouldn't be selling for years. It'd go straight into the private stash and used frequently! smile

I had a look at some over the weekend. I love the movements and while I like the styling I know it's a watch that isn't really something that I could carry off - not my style. I think I'd always be very concious that I had it on and that it might attract too much attention.

Bizarely - I've never felt that with the Sea Dweller (I know its in a different league, a far lower one) even though it could be considered bling purely because its a Rolex - I also love the GO PML as it is incredibly understated.

There are a few on TZ - they dont seem to hold their value that well (1 year old examples with $50k rrps selling for $30k). Maybe worth picking one up from the states if they hit a full on depression and we in the uk somehow avoid following them?

TZ? TimeZone? Really? If I could get one for a reduced price I would.

There is no watch I would rather have. Especially the chronographs. Mind you the RM009 is soimething special as well.

There was one in Royal Arcade watches on Friday for £14K. Looked mint in the window.

Some good negotiating should get it cheaper.

I was in London this morning so I took a detour to Bonhams in Bond Street to preview the sale. I actually tried on the RM but it didn't suit me! It is incredibly lightweight, I guess the benefit of using titanium. It's a fascinating piece to just watch the time tick by. I liked it more than I thought I would.

Anyway, back in the office now and Bonhams web site results page states that it sold for £12,240 including premiums. I guess that's a relative bargain from what I've read on previous posts here. So, come on, own up, who bought it? smash (sorry, closest smilie I could find to represent an auctioneer!)

The one in Royal Arcade Watches was still on display in their window.
