I've noticed that many pics of watches on the net are set to approx 10.11

For example:






Guy at work has a theory it's when Lincoln was killed....

..and it also clears the usual place for the date or chrono complications, has symmetry etc...

That would be my guess.

Apparently, it is to give a 'smiley face' to the hands whilst still showing off the maker's name/logo.

Obvilusyl this only applies to those watches with logos etc, at the 12:00 position - and will vary accordingly
