Sod's law means wife's watch has gone through the washing machine with the crown partially unscrewed and now full of condensation.

Obviously I will get it to a dealer asap but should/can I do anything in the meantime to minimise damage?. It still works but I imagine i will rust up as it drys out.

Thanks

Will

Ouch, not good. No idea if it will help, but try putting it in a sealed bag with some grains of rice. Rice naturally absorbs moisture so it might be worth a shot. Better than do nothing at any rate!

Damn! Could be full of salt too. Is it auto or quartz? I'd take the back off and agree with poster above on rice moisture absorbtion.

WARNING - Don't do this unless you have it verified by another far more informed source!!!!!!!

I heard that rinsing the item with distilled water - apparently it works with PCBs etc... to ensure that there are no salts or impurities left couating any of the components.

However, get it to a service centre pronto

bung it in the oven -Idid, didn't work very well... Condensation returned once it cooled down. Had to dismantle it completely but found the oven had melted the date wheel in the process. Oh well, you live and learnwink

What watch is it?

if its really expensive send it away for service.

If you can risk it and are able take the back off and let it dry. see what happens

Finally dropped it into selfridges a few weeks ago and now have the estimate from rolex to fix it which involves service £275 new face and glass due to waterdamage and scratches from the drum getting to a total of £575 inc. the vat. ouch

Annoying thing is wife has told me she doesn't reallt like the watch anymore as it is too small and she can't see it easily.

I am going to see if the insurers will cover it and in the meantime buy her a big cheap casio to put through the washing machine.
