I’ve been trying to make my own watch for a few weeks now and I’ve found everything I need and created 3D models and drawings but I can’t go any further without the movement.

I’ve decided I want the ETA A07.111. The problem is I can’t find it (or any in that range (the larger calibre)) anywhere. I’ve contacted ETA and through broken English established that I can’t get one form them.

Can anyone point me to where I can get one; provide me with one and a price.

Cheers guys.

Silly question - could you not get a 'scrap' one?

Find a buggered watch with the same movement, fix it up and then use it - or do you require a certain complication?

I'm not surprised that ETA won't sell a single unit - that's not their business model.

Edit - kudos for making your own watch. Very cool - the more I've got into horology I've actually thought about the same - I'm an ex mechanical engineering guy, hence why I love the intricacies of the business.

The A07.111 is a pretty new movement I think and like most of the "Valgranges" aimed at higher end watches (think Chopard, Martin Braun that sort of thing). I think the chances of finding a scrap one is pretty small.

They are also pretty big, so I guess its a biggish watch you are making.

I think your best bet is to contact one of the small independent watch makers like Timefactors or RLT and see if they can get you one. Alternatively decide you can get by with a 2824 or similar which should be easier to source.

ETA: I do remember reading recently that ETA, whose business model is based around selling in batches of the order of 1,000 require that the customers name (ie the maker's) be engraved on each movement, so they can't be sold on. So on reflection it may be a little tricky.
