Need a 'beater'...
Discussion
I've realised I need something I can bash about again after selling my Sub last year and buying an IWC Pilot's Chrono shortly afterwards. The IWC is fantastic for daily wear in the office but I can't help feeling it's too fragile to wear during the weekends when it's likely to get knocked about a bit. I never get it wet and tend to leave it on the bedside table at the weekend.
So, I need something I can wear where it's likely to get wet and bashed around a bit.
So, do I do what a friend of mine found so hilarious and spend £2k on a second hand GMTII to stop my other £2000 watch getting knocked? That said, it's my favourite option, does anyone know of a GMTII for sale that's already a bit rough around the edges? I'm loathe to pay top money for a mint one as I'm only going to bash it around.
Or, shall I go for an unknown quantity? I like the Sinn 756 UTC or there's the GMT look-a-likes that EmaS produce but the EmaS offerings seem a bit cheap. I've only seen one Sinn in the flesh, on the wrist of someone I meet through work now and again. Do they even have any dealers in London?

Rather like Toohuge I'd recommend an Omega Seamaster. I have a James Bond first edition, and quartz, which I've had now for maybe 10-12 years or so. I have a few other watches too but I regard this Omega as my go anywhere do anything watch. It's been in, up, down everywhere you can think of and has never lost a beat. It's a seriously robust watch IMO. I get it serviced every 4-5 years. It may be a bit battered and scratched, ie characterful, but it also means that my other watches which I consider to be rather more fragile are in good nick!

Anyone got a photo of a Seamaster on a rubber/nylon strap? My wrists are too small to suit metal bracelets and I need something I can get wet.
Here is one with a rubber strap:http://i1.iofferphoto.com/img/item/305/787/71/o_IM...
Here is one with a leather strap:

For me, i prefer the leather strap on the seamaster, the strap is waterproof etc so there is no worries there. (i also have small wrists so metal bracelets are out!)

Doesn't sound odd at all - I got (chose as a pressie from the missus) a new Sea Dweller to protect my Tag Carrera from every day knock about.Saying that - The Tag will go asap as I want to get something far more substantial in the future.
I think the definition of a beater (and therefore the £££ you should pay for one) varies depending on what you are likely to put the watch through on a regular basis. I am a desk-jockey, so I am happy with my everyday watch costing £3k, and I wouldnt have much problem using a more expensive one every day (if I could afford it). On the other hand, if I was a professional rock-climber/mechanic/whatever, I would probably be spending a lot less on my "beater". I dont really do anything at weekends that is likely to cause the watch any great distress, so again Im happy with the Sub for an everyday watch. If I was smashing it off things/ going whitewater rafting etc, I would be looking at something much cheaper.

I use a seamaster chrono for my everyday watch, its a chunky monkey and is perhaps a bit weighty if your wrists are skinny but for an everyday watch it has take na lot of knocks - scapes on walls, knocks when doing gardening, working on car and it only has picked up some minor scuffs to the latch on the strap - the watch body and glass remains perfect. Its a tough big booger and more than ready for whatever lifestyle you might throw at it.
Unlucky spooks, looks like that one has gone and I can't even see the final price I'm afraid.
Couple of quartz seamasters on ebay for around £400, and the autos are about £6-700.
There's a 007 up for £360 at the moment, but I'm really not feeling the love. Looks really tacky with the 007, and tbh looks fake to me.
Normally the date back ground is white, numbers on the bezel look too big, and that gold 007 is surely too tacky for omega?
I thought the 007s had the logo on the tail of the second hand, but I might just be showing my ignorance here.
