Omega service prices

I've just had a bit of shock with the O/H's constellation going back to Omega for a battery change due to them being the only people we could find who would change the seals and pressure test to keep the water tight integrity (only needs to be swim safe really) and the price for a new battery?? £55 to you please sir 
anyway I'm now living in fear as at the same time I sent them my 1964 Seamaster for a service as it was being generally grumpy, stopping at random, and taking a couple of days wear before it kept anywhere near reasonable time, they told me they would quote the work and needed to forward it on to their "heritage watches dept" in Switzerland, I'm dreading it. But now to top it all my current titanium Seamaster has started gaining a couple of minutes a week so is also going to need a service (hasn't been touched for probably 7 years or so) and again this is going to need to be Omega serviced to keep the watertight integrity (genuinely does need 100m rating)
But any suggestions in the SE or am I really tied to bloody Swatch House?

I don’t get my watches repaired/serviced by the manufacturer for this very reason.
If you find a local jeweler, who has been in the game for a while and has experience, the prices become almost reasonable.

jeweler, £7.00, and he checked the seals for me too (but didn’t guarantee anything).
Send the same watch back to TAG for the same job- £80.00.
Mate of mine had a Monza like mine - the side button came off. How much to have a new one fitted by TAG? £200.00!
If I need a new strap for my Monza - TAG will want to relieve me of £150.00. Ok it is crocodile leather, but I would want my own frigging croc, called Jack, to serve me drinks, clean and cook my meals for that ££££.
It's all a bloody con. But I do love my watches.

I have just had my 1934 omega restored by Swisstime in Essex - they are Omega approved for vintage (i.e. 70s and older) watches, excellent service but you get it done much faster if you turn up in person which I did.
They did a great job. The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten etc.....

Mine went to the Watch doctors twice and another reputed company. none managed to get ot working well. I took it to a guy a few of us use in London (Shaun , tube station) and he got it up and running fine. I have dived with it 2 times since. Cost?? well it was nothing like the prices you have paid !

The newer Seamaster any competent watchmaker could service this for you you don't have to use Omega - try googling for Chealwatch (good but in my experience slow) or Rytetime (just trying them now, so can't comment directly but a good reputation).
Well the vinage seamaster arrived back this morning totally unannounced with a chit saying "movement in poor condition and spare parts no longer avaliable, unable to assist" it took just over 2 weeks but atleast was inspected and shipped back free of charge, just seems a shame. I have a lead on a place in Tonbridge Wells that may be able to help, and possibly the one in essex mentioned earlier but has anyone any other ideas or recomendations?

At least you didn't get the same treatment as us. They told us that my wife's well cared fro constellation needed a new battery - sure it was more that £55 - because we were annoyed by the price. We told them to forget it and send it back. They replied saying they couldn't send it back because they had already put the battery in, found the watch still didn't work and needed to service it - extra £165 please.
We're paying this time but after problems I've had with my sea-master I'm never buying a watch again from the robbing b
