Is it just me or is this JLC cheap?

Jaeger 175.84.70 Master Compressor Chrono, lists at £4900 in the UK. The watch is $6480 ( @ $1.95/£1)equals £3323, you'll need to add vat at 17.5% (£494.91)plus shipping, you're looking at over £3900. At 20%, it's a good price. You could get better price here for a UK supplied piece......
Hope this helps.

of course you might not get stung, but then you might - its pretty much a lottery - do you want the hassle of an offshore watch when you may potentially save very little, but if you don't get stung you will save lots.

If it's sent by post, not a chance! The shipper will, to protect himself, insure it for the sale price and that will be quoted on the green customs docket and picked up as a matter of routine. I tried it with camera gear and they point balnk refused to not insure and declare the full value. Last year when I was there I bought a load of camera lenses in the USA and despatched the boxes back home from there, keeping the lenses in my battered old bag. The saving, due to the poor state of the dollar, was as much as £1,200 on one lens alone. Here the savings seem to make it worth taking the trip over what with thr price of flights nowadays. You pays your money and takes your choice.
