I'm in a bind...confused

Tertius' frequent postings about Stowa and Sinn have had me looking at the Stowa Antea and Marines for a while and just when I thought I had made my mind up he comes along and posts about Nomoslick so I look at them, and then I see Epos smokin so now I'm confuselated wobble

So, does anyone know much about Epos and what are the thoughts on teh following watches shamelessly pulled off other websites - Chronomaster in the main - and does anyone have an Epos that they can enlighten me? I've looked at the usual places for critiques...

Epos

Stowa Antea

Stowa Marine

cheers!

Where can you buy Stowa from in the UK? Is it just a case of buying direct from their website?

OK, well I don't know much about EPOS but a bit of digging suggests they are a well respected mid-tier maker, about the equivalent of Oris or, well, Stowa.

There is quite a variety of styles in those three, however, they all have an ETA base movement: 2892 in the EPOS and 2824 in the Stowas. Not really a deciding factor.

Of those three I'd take the Antea, partly because I know Stowa and love my MO, and partly because I don't have a watch on that classic Bauhaus style - so hardly a good argument for someone else ... wink

I don't quite like the styling of the EPOS, the mixture of roman and arabic numerals, and the date window is very intrusive.

But, really I'd have a Stowa Marine Original in preference to all three - though there is no date on the MO and I'm guessing that you want a date?

If date is essential then I would be thinking Nomos: either a Tangomat Date:

or if you don't mind handwound, the Tangente Date:

Or (and this would be my choice I think) a Tangente Sport Date:

Hi Tertius

You are correct MO has no date - but has a Unitas 6498 - is this based on the 2824 then?

The Marine Automatic is an ETA 2824 - but does have a date.... (and a lot cheaper than the MO!)

I love my MO even without the date, thanks again for bringing Stowa to my attention! beer

No the Unitas 6498 is a quite different movement from the 2824, though both actually made by ETA now. The Unitas was originally a pocket watch movement - which is why it is so big.

The movements are different between the MO and the Marine Auto - a key attraction of the MO for me.

thanks for taking the time Tertius. I have two manual watches already - a JLC Reverso Grand Taille and an Omega Speedy Moonwatch. No probs with having another.....

Interesting comments on the face design of the Epos. You do have a point I think. The Stowa MO is much cleaner. I'm not obsessed with the date windows though. I think I'm torn between the MO and the Epos - the Epos offering something a bit different (the regulateur). Will let you know!

I do agree re. the regulateur style - I'm quite keen on getting one myself but haven't found one that is quite right at a reasonable price.

The nearest I've found is the Louis Erard:

I have a Stowa Marine Auto, and a Stowa Antea.
Stowa offer excellent value for money, and I love the style of both watches. The Nomos Tangente is significantly more expensive than the very similar Stowa Antea, but then it does have an in house movement, rather than a "bog standard" ETA.

cheers all!

I like the look of the power reserve one - I'll have a look in Zermatt next week.

I think I'm coming down on the side of the Stowa Marine if I go that route.....problem is I'm seriously thinking about the JLC Squadra Hometime as well! Decisions.....
