I have in my modest collection a couple of swiss watches, and this mechanical Russian watch which I picked up off ebay for a tenner, and got it serviced, and now keeps excellent time. It also has quite a history behind it according to a few cursory googles. Shes not what I would describe beautiful, but she is 60 years old - and has a wonderful patina over all the dial.

If you want something a bit different, then check out ebay for the selection of Russian watches.

I reckon that for someone on a very tight budget something like this takes a lot of beating.

My next acquisition will probably be a Poljot chronograph which i'm saving for now - does anyone know where the cheapest place to source them from would be/ or has anyone got an ebay seller they recommend?

I think in terms of value for money and "quirkyness" Russian watches, in general, take some beating.

I bought a cheap Vostok hand wind from Zenitar a few months ago. Gains about 30 seconds a day, not bad for £12.

Looks good generally too though obviously cheap and nasty in some areas.

Great for a cheap very day hack.

A good source for Poljot is www.poljot.at which is the official Austrian importer. Competitive prices and all genuine watches. There are far too many fakes on the ebay market. Great value watches compared to the Swiss brands. The finishing is a bit more basic, but the movements eg. 3133 chrono are legendary. Every watch collection should feature at least one genuine Poljot.
