So, I officially now have 'a collection'
Discussion
Yep - after lurking on this part of the forum and surfing around, etc - I went out today and went from having one 'fashion' watch (Armani) to having 3 watches and buying missus a smart one, too! I have found that the best way to get away with spending a lot of money on watches, is to spend a chunk on the wife at the same time - Phantom's Top Tip!
Today we happened to look in the window of a local jeweller in the Metrocentre and there it was - probably the last remaining Tag Heuer Monaco Vintage Gulf Ltd Edition - the black one with the blue/orange face, black strap with orange stitching. I had my eye on a Tag Link S with the dark blue face as well...and then wife spotted a very nice 18ct golf/diamond Tag Aquaracer!
So in one sitting we bought all three. It's official - I have had a wallet-ectomy today!
So do you guys want pictures here or is that just cock-waving?

welldone,
i would be happy to see some pictures that would be good, it definatly would not be seen as cock waving in my view.
Fair play to you for getting your wedge out and buying some stunning watches,
feels good.
pictures if you can.
Agreed - if you got them for the right reason - because it's what you wanted - then no one can ever say that you're having a willy waving comp.i would be happy to see some pictures that would be good, it definatly would not be seen as cock waving in my view.

Show us mate
I was only kidding about the cock waving - I know loads of guys post their pics here. Mind you, I am still sitting here having paranoia about internet anonymity! God, what a poof!
Ok, my 2 new ones, then the good lady's new one (please ignore the crap photography and the fact that I am reflected in most of the watches! HA ha!) :
Now I know these are in reasonable demand and have done my homework, so I was surprised to find one. Allegedly the last one for sale in the UK, but I don't believe that! Definitely hard to come by, tho. In the flesh, this watch is even nicer than I had hoped. I bought it as a 'keeper' not a 'wearer', but I tried it on and it sits on the wrist really nicely. Surprisingly understated for an expensive watch.
My new daily wearer. I am thrilled with how nice this watch is in the flesh. A lovely weight (which we all know makes a big difference ) and looks the part without being too flash. The dial is not black unlike the description on many sites - it's actually very dark blue and absolutely gorgeous.
Proof that I think Tag have tried to move more up-market in recent years. This is a really nice watch in the flesh. Not overly bling, but shines up in the best way when it catches the light.
I am really happy with these today - I can see this becoming adictive!

Really nice watches and not willy waving, but why are you not going to wear the Monaco!!?! Surely thats the point! They do the everyday watch thing pretty well, I wear mine at least 3 times a week and it doesnt suffer for it...
Saw the same Monaco for sale in London mid-week, near Tower Hill, but can't remember the shop! They are still out there but you are right you do need to look!! Saw one of the older white faced ones for sale as well fairly recently too.

Thanks - I have to be honest, I was thinking of the Monaco as more of an 'investment' than an everyday watch. Limited edition and all that and kinda hope that it still had a value in a bunch of years time.
Probably a silly thought and one which is a lot like those who buy an F40 and never take it out the garage.
We actually have a really good insurance policy on the watches (if anything it's over insured for a watch that would live under lock and key) so I have already decided to wear it from time-to-time.
Question, tho - I understand the Monaco's are a plexi face and as such I am utterly paranoid about scratching it. Do I have to treat it if I do wear it, like it's an egg?

Wear it as you would any other watch. I have knocked the face of mine a couple of times and it hasnt marked. I wouldn't wear it working on a car or hacking through woods etc but for day to day work type wear it'll be fine. The one thing with the plexi is that if it does scratch a bit it can be polished out without to much trouble!P~
I am sure my nervousness will pass over time.
Ok, then - being new to this game, I have a couple of quick questions :
I paid about £500 for 3 year insurance cover, which I have some questions about from the provider, but does anyone know if insurance generally covers scratches to the face? If I should expect that and it is missing, then I will change the policy.
I have read about the necessity for a 'watch winder' for automatic watches because otherwise if I leave the Tag unworn for a long period of time, it self destructs and blows the roof off my house and kills the neighbours.
What is a 'long time'?
Do I need to invest in a winder (the Rapport EVO 7 would probably do), or is this not as big an issue as those trying to sell winders would have you think?
Cheers!
Newbie.

Congrats on the purchases but surely a proper "collection" is something lovingly built up over time, not instantly "created" by blowing several grand on 3 watches of the same make, at the same time.
Nice enough watches - the ladies model is a bit WAG for my personal taste but if you & the missus like it, then fine.
However, for the money you must have spent on the brand new Tag's you could have bought lots of much more interesting (perhaps, but not necessarily pre-owned), higher quality models. It just might have taken a bit more time & effort. A bit like the difference between preparing & cooking a good meal from scratch & fast food. The fast food gives instant "gratification", but you're soon left wanting for something more substantial.
Just a thought.

so, does more than 1 watch constitute a collection? and what if your 'collection ' doesn't happen to be made up of rolex, breitling, etc?
My 'Collection' consists of a TAG - F1 I think), a a load of cheap ste - casio G shock, renault sport chronograph.
Soon to arrive - Astroavia watch from werners!!!

EXACTLY, CelticPilgrim! My thraed title was 'tongue-in-cheek' as I think most people spotted, but you are dead right - a collection is any more than 1 and it does not matter if they cost 20p each, IMHO. It's all a bit of fun.
Yeah, I have bought five this year and I must say, I do have the bug. I found myself yesterday looking at others and thinking, "Hey that one is only a grand-and-a-half...that's not bad!". Now I know it's time to step away from the watch sales, when I am thinking like that! Ha ha.
I have decided watches are like tattoos - once you have one, you crave another...and another.
