Folks,

I am keen to get Tag Carrera Automatic tachymeter, but dont know much about wathces. 3 questions really.

1) What other Motorsport inspired watched is similar quality/money style?
2) Will I save much buying in New York (thinking dollars for pounds) They seemt to be £1400 in UK?
3) Also if I can expect to save a bit, any ideas where to buy, I'll be staying very central in NY.

Thanks in advance.

Can I seriously suggest you consider buying pre-owned if value is important to you. Like car's buying brand new = depreciation in 99% of all cases.

I would consider it actually, but if I can pay less in another country, why wouldnt you? Just trying to avoid ripoff britian.

Anyone got experience or advice?

Bought my Tag Monaco in New York JFK. $ exchange rate - all taxes because it was an international flight = 40% off UK price for a new watch. I don't recall seeing any Carreras but this may have been before the new collection was released.

burba, good value vs. UK, i.e. is it nearly pound for dollars? I'll check that place out, thanks!

Sounds like it might be a good idea. Now is a carrera the one to have? I like have a time keeping bit, and the round dial of the tag, but what do the others do that is similar?

Thanks for you help

I have bought a few Tags from the US over the years. I picked up a Carrera Automatic for around £1,000 14 months ago. Retail was £1500 in the UK.

To answer Q1. what about Oris who produce a number of motorsport related models aas part of their Williams association.

I rather like the look of this one: http://www.righttime.com/ORIS/WILLIAMS_F1/63575604...

WIlliams F1 Day Date; but there are several nice looking watches in the collection. I've not seen this particular model in the metal but have owned two Orises and really rate them great watches, very under-rated, easily the match of Tag.

Alternatively their are the Seiko BAR Honda watches, none of which are to my taste, but I can't see you getting another motorsport inspired wtch with an in-house movement for anything like the price.

Finally Girard-Perregaux have produced a number of motorsport related watches including an association with Ferrari (though Panerai now have that relationship).

BTW, the underscores in your name seem to mess up the quoting.
