Last Friday I lost my gold/diamond tiepin at a wedding - it was very windy while I was outside taking photos, and when I got home, the tiepin was missing. I rang the venue but they said the lawn was mown two days afterwards and they haven't called me back - so I think it's time to say goodbye to it.

I'm not into jewellery as such; a tiepin is the closest I get, and it would be nice to have something a little special as a replacement (as long as it doesn't fall off in a high wind!). As I know nothing about the market, I'd be interested to know what 'decent' makes I should be looking at.

Ta!

Secondly, can I make an insurance claim? The problem is that I don't have a receipt or any evidence that I owned it!

Try claiming on your insurance, nothing ventured nothing gained, do you have a photo you can show the insurer's. GOOD LUCK, seriously bad luck, try to borrow/rent a metal detector and go back and look for it.( I would )

As for brands of watches? Why not get something you like the look of, the choice is endless, only limited by budget, i suppose, whatever that is. smile

Good luck with your search.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It's a real pain in the rear end. As for 'brands' of tie tacs/pins, these are now few and far between. Depending on your location in the country, try some antique dealers, they usually carry some fancy gear for not too much money. Or a decent jeweller in London should be able to supply you with one or try popping into a thomas pink shop or similar and ask on of the assistants about a quality tie tac.

Thanks folks. I rang the venue again yesterday and they said they'd searched everywhere but no luck. They hold a lot of wedding parties there so they're quite used to rounding up missing bits of jewellery! They had another wedding on that day so I wasn't able to call in.

Anyway, my kindly mother, who bought the first one about 20 years ago, has very decently agreed to chip in for a new one so I guess it's time for Simpo to go and browse some jewellers!
