I am just getting my 42mm IWC Spitfire Chrono ready for sale, so I thought I would swing by Austin Kaye on The Strand and see if they could polish out some/ all of the marks on the case, of which there are not many...

The watch has just been serviced by IWC and 'upgraded' after being sent back to the factory so it is in good mechanical condition (apparently) but the case needs a buff so I thought I would get a price: £100 for polishing... Does that sound good/ ok? Is there somewhere else I should try? WoS on Bond Street/ Oxford St where they deal in IWC? I have no idea whether it is a good price or not... How long might it take, a couple of hours?

I was intending to sell it privately but I thought I would get a price from them just in case it was an ok offer and I could just save some hassle and get it done then and there... They came back with £1250.

This seems more than a little low. Their reasoning was that 'trade' get them new for half price... well, that's fine and I understand that I would get more in a private sale but £1250 is MORE than half the retail price (£2400) and the watch is in 2nd hand condition... That number just seems a bit odd to me. Thoughts?

Some of you suggested in the £1900's on the 2nd hand market. If I am prepared to wait a bit, I can see that 'maybe' happening but do you think, for a quick sale, £1800 might get it shifted? I was thinking that eBay would be the first port of call as I am not a member of TZ or other forums and I didn't want to anger them with a for sale post as my first! Any other suggestions?

Sorry for all the rambling and questions... Just wondering whether I need to re-assess the sale!

Cheers,

Dom

PS the money is going towards my automotive pursuits... My rolex, Tags, Seikos etc are all staying with me!

I bought a second hand watch from Autin Kaye and though expensive, the service was very good and the watch condition was fantastic.
