I've been agonising over whether to buy a steel Daytona but I don't want to wait for years and taking on board some of the comments about the 'flashy' nature of them too I have had second thoughts:

Instead why not source an easily obtainable and some may argue more tasteful white gold with black face and black leather strap variant?

Question is list price appears to be just over £10k so is there somewhere I can find a nearly new one and pay not much more than for a marked-up steel one? If so this would be a lot better value - getting gold at a discount but not steel for a premium!

Are there any disadvantages to the white gold? For example being a soft metal is it easy to ding? Not that I am tough on my watches.

Any help appreciated.

1. don't buy new. They depreciate like a BASTARD!
2. White gold scratches and dents very easily. It will look scruffy very quick.

Try www.watches.co.uk - they normally have loads of Daytonas.

Edited to add - they#ve got about 40 Daytona's. About six of them white gold. This one is six months old at 7k.

Why not try a bimetal steel/gold for 4k?

White gold wedding bands need fettling every couple of years or so (assume that white gold is prodcued by some electroplating process or something) and so I woudl expect the case of a white gold watch to 'go off' over a period of time.

Bi-metal might be the way to go
