Essentially another 'what watch' thread
My wife has decided to buy me a watch after last weeks arrival of my first child

After searching through opinions here, i had decided on an Ollech and Waj, either a black face Ocean Master,or MP2824
I contacted Chronomaster, who told me that they no longer sold O&W after numerous failures and quality problems

So, back to the drawing board....

I like military style, classic, rugged. Other than that I'm open to all opinions within my £250 max budget

Thanks in advance!!

Grovana - Swiss made SW200 or ETA Movement Sapphire Crystal, 300m water resist and swiss made case

looks a bargain. They are Rolex homages but are a lot bigger than their rolex equivalents and in my opinion better for it.

slightly cheaper on ebay

Mind you, RLT seem to have some O&W watches in stock too. Don't know if they are the models you were after though.

I know, not a bad result! ;-)

I had a look at RLT, and they do seem to have the watch i liked, but I'm nervouse about Ollech after speaking to Chronomaster

I know nothing about watches, so all suggestions appreciated..

Can you expand on why you're nervous about the O&W watches?

I phoned Chronomaster, who were recommended by various threads here

The very helpful person i spoke to advised me that they no longer sold the Ollech watches, after recent returns and quality problems

They are waiting for O&W to 'sort out the problems' before they restart selling them

he pointed me at Aristo watches, but they dont have anything i like...

Ah I see, that's a shame as I have just been looking at an M4 and contemplating buying one.

Thanks for letting me know

As above, congratulations on the new arrival, and well done - when my wife gave birth I think I was way down the 'people who deserve presents' list.

Have you considered Poljot? different style to the O&W but in budget.

CH

PS: I was also considering the O&W M4, but ended up with a seamaster (it was a bargain!)

Grovanas...look nice, but surely they are one step from being sued by Rolex??

Neil at Chronomaster advised me of the same thing a couple of months ago when I was after an O&W manual wind.

I have to speak up for O&W - I can't comment on current issues they may have.
What I can say is that my Defender 2 is totally bulletproof. I use it daily and on my wrist it's accurate to +2 secs a day, puts my old Seadweller and Breitling crosswind racing to shame.

so, anyone with any other options?
I have been looking at the RLT site, more specifically the self made range of RLT watches

anyone have any experience of these?

Not personally but they seem well liked by the onwers on the forum, where I'm an occasional poster.

Also look at the Timefactors watches and the forum - www.timefactors.com and www.tz-uk.com

I would also support O&W - I can't comment on the current issues but have a Big Time

and a chrono (arrived today so no pics I'm afraid).

Both used and bought for within your budget.

I like that O&W in your pic, but cant find anyone who sells that particular model

I think i will phone RLT and ask their opinion on O&W

Its not a current model.

Think Irish got a white dialled one in the US somewhere - West Coast Time perhaps?

I think I may sell mine actually but not for a while yet. Apart from anything else its away being serviced.

I've had a few. Great value, generally bulletproof movements. Finish can sometimes be a little below what I'd like, but certainly above the price point by a fair margin.

Spoke to Roy at RLT, most helpful

His opinion of O&W hasnt changed- he sees no significant problems or returns, so I'm not sure if there is some specific issue with Chronomaster

So, my choice has narrowed somewhat, and Ollech is back in the fray

Choice- Ollech Ocean Master with black face, or RLT 19 with Carbon face and custom colours...

Will post pics later to gather opinions..

Actually - I dont know how to post pics.....
