where to buy online?
Discussion
Okay, my watch has died on me unfortunatley...
and while im not in the position to buy the Omega Seamaster I had my eye on... I need a reasonable watch for the meantime..
But i dont want anything with a larger face than 40mm, and preferable not too thick or chunky - not sure what brand to go for or anything - but I was hoping there would be online stockists with pretty good description of size and weight of the watch, but alas, i cannot find them..
So, the question is, does anyone know of any good, well informed, websites for watches?

Hello mate
Your best bet is to post your desired budget and go from there. I would suggest something like a Seiko automatic (maybe a 5) if your just looking for a reliable watch that is not to displeasing on the eye. Obviously a bit bigger than you might like but you cannot go wrong with a Seiko "monster"...
(Also available in black, both colours for around £100)
Automatic, 300m, very strong and solid, but slightly chunky (43mm Dia x 12mm thick).
Your best bet is to just hit the manufacturers web page of your choosing, find the model you like and then google it. Ebay is always a good port of call as long as you pay attention to the details of seller feedback etc. I've had some great bargins over the years from there.
If your after something a bit different for realistic money I can thoughly recomend a Poljot mechanical, they come in at around 40mm and some of them are absolutley superb looking...
That's a Poljot Sturmanskie Ocean
Ps. The Poljot above (and indeed all the other Russian makes) can be found on www.smirs.com (I'm sure others will be along in a while with more suggestions)

Seiko
Briel (made by Seiko)
Poljot
Those are 3 brands I would look at within that price range. However with exchange rates where they are I would also go to ebay and have a look at Hamilton. Very nicely made American watches (Quite a few featuring swiss movements) and if you do a world wide search you can find some very nice models for around the £200 mark.
For just under £300 you can even get a Hamilton Ventura, quite iconic in design, and very different (You could even call it "art Deco" )

To be honest Neil, I have very conservative tastes in watches...
I might just get something cheap and cheerful for the time being... i'm far too picky..
If you've got conservative taste, how are you managing to find a £3k Seamaster? A normal auto is about a grand to £1500! Do you wear one on each wrist?I might just get something cheap and cheerful for the time being... i'm far too picky..
