I really like Poljot & Aviator watches.

I'm not looking to spend much at all.

Could anyone tell me the pros & cons of these on ebay?

I'm also looking at Seiko Flightmasters

I've got a Poljot chrono - they are decent, well made, reliable watches.

They usually have a handwound movement - the chronographs have what used to be the Valjoux 7733, the tooling was sold to the Russians and is now usually numbered 3133. Not sure about the non-chrono movements, I'm afraid. This does mean the movement is well known, easy to service, and will have no parts problems.

In my opinion, the best way of getting one, unless you want a very specific model, is to lurk about on www.thewatchforum.co.uk or www.tz-uk.com for a while - they come up very frequently.

the fact that mine is up for sale on thewatchforum is pure coincidence, honest ...

I have two poljot watches. The Yuro Gagarin LTR chrono sturmanski and another LTR edition pilots watch. Both are fitted with ultra accurate mechanical movements and I would recommend them to anyone.

A good place to see the range available is on the website www.smirs.com . They have specs on pretty much every model available and are a good indication of price.

I've got a really nice Poljot Sturmanskie 3133 chrono. It's a very nice watch, especially for the price. But be very careful where you buy these watches, especially on ebay. There are so many fakes and frankenwatches it's not funny. Getting hold of a genuine one needs a fair bit of research first. Here's a good place to start:-

Hey James, just realised it was you. It seems we have more in common than just classic 911s, mountain biking etc!

This is a reputable place to buy them from too. They're an official dealer based in Germany:-

But I actually bought mine from Austria, because they happened to have the model I wanted on sale. Again an official dealer:-

Very nice, the 3133 movement is very dependable and has a great history behind it.
I've got this slightly retro Sturmanskie (airforce) replica with the same 3133 chrono movement. The quality of finish is excellent and pretty much unbeatable for the money.

A couple of points to note with these watches:-

1/ They have mineral glass crystals, not sapphire, so more prone to scratches.
2/ They're not very water resistant, so don't consider using them for swimming or even in the shower. Although this is no different than say an Omega Speedmaster.

Apart from the above limitations, they're as tough as old boots and a bit different to the usual brands.
