Just got my Spitfire (IW370623) back from WoS after it's second service in 15 months from new!

Thinking of getting rid of it now, but I have no idea what it's worth on the 2nd hand market...

Definitely has a few visible, but not bad, scratches on the case but nothing on the glass etc and has all boxes, papers, receipts etc

Looks like: http://www.timephilosophy.com/index.php?var=watche...

The RRP over here is £2400 but assume people are picking them up for around the £2k mark. What should I be putting it up for sale at and should I be getting the case polished before selling it? If so, who could polish the case and what should that cost? I am located in Central London and working on Shaftsbury Avenue.

Cheers,

Dom

Sorry to hear that - I've been looking at one of these as a future purchase. What sort of problems have you been having that has required 2 services?

Given that WoS have serviced it (at your cost or under warranty?), surely they could have polished it too?

You might like to try Austin Kaye on the Strand (www.austinkaye.co.uk)

Looking at the watch sites i frequent, just a smudge over £2k is what these are going for at the moment.
I would market it at £2100 and let go for £2000.

Nice one for sale here
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys.

There have been a couple of topics about this watch but the first time it had to go back to IWC was because it had died... Apparently it had to have some new parts and was then sent back to me. The second time it went back the Chronograph function only ran to 59secs and then gave up.

It's all working now and was fixed under warranty and I am wearing it as we speak and giving the Submariner a rest. It was polished neither time, which was a bit harsh... I even wrote IWC an email and they never apologised for the watch having to be worked on, even though it was so new.

The case does seem a fair bit softer than my Rolex and Tags.

I know Austin Kaye well but found one of the guys in there to be a bit, not sure what the word is, condescending maybe? It was a bit off-putting and I walked out without buying anything, which I was going to do...

Anyone know what a case polish would cost roughly?

I have seen people buying them for just under £2k duty free etc so I was thinking more along the lines of £1800 as it's the new model.

I might just part ex it at WoS or somewhere else as I want to get my missus a Rolex for her birthday on the 31st...

I wasn't going to advertise it here, as, it may sound weird, but if I am looking for a watch I never actually look here... I actually think using it as a part/ex may be the way forward as it kills 2 birds with one stone.

It's in perfect working order now and have posted several threads about how useless IWC have been with the watch before, so its history was pretty well known before this thread!

I wouldn't want to put anyone off IWC's as I think they are some of themost beautiful watches around, but I think it's good if everyone knows my experiences! My buddy has an Ing. and a Portugese and they both had to be sent back within 18 months of purchase... Not a good track record frankly!
