I fancy something new...

Currently have:

Tag (14 yrs old, don't wear much any more)
Omega Speedmaster with black strap (daily)
O&W Ocean master (daily, when I remember to wind it)

Would love a JLC but funds won't stretch that far.

IWC Spitfire XVI on top of list (& budget) but open to ideas

I'm looking for something with a simple dial, nothing 'in yer face', with date, a brown leather strap, automatic movement and definitely not gold. Budget is around £1600-£1800. It won't be precious - by that I mean I don't want it for special occasions and I want to be able to wear it every day if I feel like it.

For the understated look, in that price range, I would look at a Spring Drive or an ML Masterpiece.

I see..... Looks like only 200 made and is about £2000.

Very nice, but a bit much for a Seiko no? (I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it smile)

Seiko have traditionally made a lot of watches in the £1500-£5000 price bracket for the Asian market only (wikipedia up "Grand Seiko&quotwink

Just like Toyota / Lexus, or Honda with the NSX, Spring Drive is their first move into Western markets with a "premium product" >£1,000.

Also just like the NSX, they have come with some pretty impressive technology unavailable to any other manufacturer (i.e. the spring drive automatic that is accurate to +/- 2 seconds per month, according to reviews.).

Hell, in Japan you can buy a Seiko for £70,000....just for the movement quality and limited edition. No diamonds / jewels etc to boost the value!

Good ol' Wiki......

I'm in the market for a new watch and this is in the right price bracket (assuming I can find one) I was looking at getting a concord (I think they might be American not Swiss) but again, I can't really find one......

Oh well, I'll revisit this in the new year.

Thanks for the help (tho I didn't start this thread smile), have a good Christmas.
