Hi there,

I am currently lookin to buy myself a new watch, i was thinking of either the Cartier Santos 100 chronograph, Graham or a hublot but i am open to other suggestions.
i would like a watch that is not your average watch and would appreciate some advice as what to get,

Thank you in advance to you all.

Breguet - marine
Blancpain - Leman + Air Command
Jaeger LeCoultre - master date, master 8 day, master compressor
Zenith - Grande Class, Defy
Glashutte - dunno the range sorry
IWC - portugese 8 day, Ingeniuer
Rolex
Panerai
Ulysse Nardin - maxi marine
My fave at the moment Girard Perregaux - Big Date + GP Seahawk

what type of watch dressy, sporty, leather/metal bracelet, gold/steel

4-5k will get you something really nice.

Hublot and Graham are particularly 'distinctive' and not to everyones taste, I personally like the Cartier but its not got the 'history' of any of the above.

sparky thanks for ur reply...
i am looking into something which can be worn all the time as it will be my first watch,
in a leather strap prefereably with a buckle, not too much gold, dont mind if no gold as well
something EyecatchinG and DifferenT
but at the same time having the name of a respected watch behind it that does not lose value over time, i.e it can increase over time or atleast hold its value
ideally an investment.
could you also be more specific in the watches
because i am familiar with brand names but am trying to find specific models
reallly appreciate.
Thanks again

Most can be put on leather but not all can be metal bracelet.
All the above are v highly respected most are in house movements and have hundreds of years history.
If you are looking not to loose money then buy second hand/rare vintage - otherwise forget it (possible exception with Rolex Daytona)

Do a search of the brands - lots of online dealers with photos - also vistit the manufacturers site.

see above I have edited it

IIRC, 'Grahams' aren't historical, and are trading on the name?

I have that first JLC pictured (Master Date) it is a lovely watch but discontinued now, so you would have to find a used one. If you do find one it will be miles under your budget though.

If you want something distinctive, from a manufacture with history and a little unusual what about either, a JLC Reverso Duo:

Or an IWC Regulateur:

...or how about two pre-owned watches, much better value, less depreciation etc etc.

"Proper" (i.e. classic, before their styling went wierd) Zenith El Primero plus a Speedmaster, plus change sounds good, but really so may perms and combinations.

If it's just the one watch, then a JLC of your choice would be the way to go for me - just about anything except Reversos, which I don't quite "get".

Chopard Mille Miglia. Great drivers watch. Love the rubber tyre effect on the strap.

I keep looking at one of these, I like everything about them except the bl**dy cyclops which always puts me off. They are dirt cheap (relatively) secondhand.

Its not really in the same league as the JLC or IWC I suggested (or the Blancpain pesty suggested) though.
