Black Rolex Daytona in Evo Magazine this month
Discussion
Has anyone seen the black Daytona in Evo?
I think it's utterly beautiful. I have forgotten my copy and so the website link they gave, so I don't have many details on it but I think it looks fantastic.
However, it was the better part of £11k, which is outrageous if it's steel (and I doubt they would colour a precious metal). Is it an official Rolex special edition or a new, standard colour? Or has the jeweller made it themselves?
My missus says I can have one... I don't think she will feel the same way when I tell her that she will have to wait another couple of months before we can move house though!

Yes, the watch is steel it's based on the 116520. It's been given a PVD coating on the case and bracelet. It is done by Bamford & Sons, a London based luxury goods retailer. It is not an official Rolex special edition, there may be issues when it comes to servicing as Rolex do not work on modified watches.....I think it's utterly beautiful. I still think it's stunning... But if it's not an offical watch and is just PVD coated by a jeweller, then I can't understand how theycan charge so much! It can't cost much to get it coated at all! I won't bebuying one! I think the Subs look bad though... I prefer mine in stainless, but there is something about the Daytona, that's for sure!

I wanted one and enquired with Bamford & Sons.
1. It's a re-coated stainless daytona.
2. It costs £12,500
3. The original stainless daytona is USED.
4. They will not coat someone elses stainless daytona.
"err... OK....
Thank you and goodbye."

Six grand please, mate.
nice watch but 6k+ upcharge for a pvd coating is very very expensive ( 1 or 2 micron's thick), but some people will pay it for exclusivity and fair play to them,
i would not though, but i am not super rich.
the fact it is not official factory rolex, is also a negative point.
Still look really nice.
A factory black ceramic daytona case and strap, would be far more stunning and a more likely official route for rolex to take in the future, so i would not be surprised if it turns up in a few years.
at a high price.

£11k for for a mass produced fashion watch with a sub-standard movement??? WTF Even paying £4k for the standard watch is dayligh robbery - and then £7k for a PVD job?.......there's a few PVD specialists in the USA who could do this to your watch for a fraction of this amount.
But WHY?......for £11k you could buy a very nice piece from a proper watch manufacturer made in annual volumes that Rolex would make of the Daytona IN A DAY!

But the Daytona snaps panty elastic at six miles.
An IWC doesn't!
