Does anyone know how much deposit you have to put down on one of these monstrosities? It seems an easy way of making a grand or two in 3 years time.

seems to be the going rate though for one guys
No - it is the price advertised by dealers with business overheads to pay and a guarantee to stand by.

Sounds good to me. Where do I sign?
Seriously, is it just a matter of rocking up to the nearest AD and placing an order?

no, as most AD's are not taking anymore orders at present.

So how do you get on the waiting list?

Just as you do with everything that's always perceived as unavailable, have a word with someone in the know.

Fair enough, I know a few people who have done it before. Just wondered if the waiting list was open to plebs.

This will vary greatly from store to store, and from company to company. You'll simply have to put in some leg work, or hit the Yellow Pages.
Bear in mind that they will probably get asked on a daily basis about supplying Rolex Daytona. A lot of AD's will probably not operate a list as they will sell their tiny annual allocation to regular store patrons/big hitters. From their point of view there's not a lot of mileage in supplying prime product to a never seen before one-off client.
That said, if you knock on enough doors you should find an AD willing to entertain your enquiry.

Good luck with your enterprise, it's as easy as that....

Cheers. A friend of mine did this a few years ago. He waited about 3 years for the watch and then sold it straight away to a wealthy friend for a good profit. Funny thing is, when he ordered it he intended to keep it for himself. But the guy made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Is it just me or do you too find the business of paying over the odds monstrously funny? Boil it all down and it is just a watch after all. I had the first SLK Mercedes in Leicestershire in 1997 (?) having seen the prototype years before at the NEC then phoning my mate at the dealership. I told him that if they ever produced it I wanted one. I kept the car two months because a) I was pestered to put the roof up and down every time I parked it and b) because I found notes every day offering me over the odds. I sold it for a £5,000 profit. But, I wonder how much the buyer sold it for in the end? A fool and his money are soon parted.

It tends to be young impressionable types who fall for this kind of silly buying. I did it myself when I was young and stupid. Now I'm just stupid wink
