hi all - i have a watch up for sale ( http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/294591.htm ) and would appreciate any comments about the advert. (and no, i'm not just trying to pimp my ad smile )

from reading past threads, the value was put at £2 - £2.5k. my watch is in excellent condition, but, having been worn daily, it's obviously not 'as-new'. the crystal is perfect. there are some very fine marks on the outside of the bracelet and clasp - i'm sure they would polish right out and then it would look as new. so, i put it up for £2250, but have had no offers in the last week.

i appreciate it's very much a niche item, in that someone has got to want one and then they may think it's a good price. am i right in thinking the sea dweller is not as easy to get hold of as a submariner? obviously if i put it on at £1000, even people who weren't looking for one would snap it up.

so - do people think 2250 is reasonable, or a bit on the high side? if it's reasonable, it's then just a case of waiting until someone who wants a sea dweller comes along.

or possibly the advert has not had much interest as it's poorly presented / worded?

any help would be gratefully received.

also, where else would people advertise it to get more exposure?

many thanks.

I'm no expert in watches (as the Porsche thread details!), but a lot of people aren't putting their hands in their pockets to buy 'expensive' items - it's just the economy at the moment.

Cars aren't selling, houses etc...

Good luck with the sale though.

To be honest I don't think PH classifieds is a great place to sell watches - people just aren't looking in the classifieds for watches.

Starting this thread is probably the best idea as more people (interested in watches) look here.

I would suggest somewhere like www.tz-uk.com. However, I would caution against signing up and placing a for sale ad with your first post - it doesn't always go down well ... undertsandably I think.

Price looks OK to me, though I know little about Rolex pricing. I guess one issue may be if people compare against US prices, e.g. timezone.com where Sea Dwellers seem to be available for $3500-$4000.

Looking at prices on the internet for second hand Rolexs then to be honest your price does not seem unreasonable, however i would agree that should not lower the price unless someone made you a sensible offer, so keep it until someone does want to buy it from you.

You could also try the jewellers "BLOWERS" they specialise in second hand rolex's.

I suppose it depends on how quickly you need to get shot of it.

Then again why do you not just keep it, as it is timeless (no pun intended) style and very well made.

thanks for your thoughts everyone - they're very helpful. i thought the price reasonable and it is a gorgeous watch (sorry to have to sell it actually frown )

i agree that the miscellaneous section of the PH classifieds is not a great place to sell this kind of thing - ideally we'd have a watch section.

i may give blowers a ring but, as they're a shop, would obviously expect less from them than a private sale as they've then got to make something on it themselves.

thanks again
