I know we had a discussion not long ago regarding the Seiko Automatics and somebody posted a link to an ebay seller with some Seiko 5's. They caught my eye as a good present for my father. I am just wondering if I would be making a big mistake i.e are the mechanical movements reliable and relatively accurate? I want a watch he can wear every day which isn't flashy.

The 5s are reliable, and are also pretty cheap to fix and service. Expect accuracy of +/- 10 to 20 seconds per day. Which is not bad for an automatic watch costing 50 quid, ask some of the people with Omegas here costing 20 times that wink

if its a present though you might want to consider the newer "Spirit" line of Seikos...they have really nice new movement in them and MUCH better finish.

i might get myself one of these for christmas...not sure smile
