This has taken me ages to find. Brand new in the box (complete with all the original sales tags) Japanese market Casio G-Shock GW-225A-1JF Frogman 25th Anniversary "Black Dawn"...

(This is obviously a borrowed shot, I will be taking some record shots of mine at the weekend, the Carbon/alloy casket is a thing of beauty)

Rare as rocking horse shit and only available on 'the bay' these days after selling out instantly in Japan. According to stories on the web demand for this watch was so high that some shops in Tokyo ran open lotteries on their waiting lists to see who would get one out of their allocated stock. I actually managed to secure it totally by accident after happening to check eBay and found it listed with a totally out of character buy it now by someone who obviously didn't check other auctions before they decided their price. Very happy they didn't to be honest. The colour variation is available in very limited numbers outside of Japan (2 per dealer in Singapore for example) but the packaging was a strictly Japan only limited supply item.
Along with all the usual Casio G-Shock features it has the "tough Solar" movement which is good for 5 months running without a light source. Not bad considering the solar panels are limited to the black face surround.

What's most interesting though is when you delve into the G-shock "story" and learn about all the different limited editions they produce and just how massive the hysteria is when something such as the "Black Dawn" is released. In fact it's very easy to get drawn into the ethos of G-Shock collecting and I got to admit there are a few models in the "Master of G" range that I wouldn't mind getting hold of myself now.

There is a variation of the Frogman from a few years back called the "Brazilian" which was coloured very similar to a very poisonous Brazilian tree frog (white/grey camo). This particular model is so sought after that on the rare occasion one does appear for sale it usually commands a price over a thousand!!! Think I will give that one a miss...

Again, as with most of my purchases, it's not in keeping with the current trend on this forum but I would much rather spend my time finding and spending a couple of hundred (at most) on a super rare watch like this than a couple of grand on a watch that is available in the high street. Not bitching anyone’s choices but I have had "watch snobs" elsewhere instantly discount my collection because it doesn't have the names they like... tts in my opinion. (I have a few watches in my collection that whilst instantly disregarded by those supposedly "in the know" they are actually hugely rare and would probably cost 3 or 4 times what I paid to replace them)

Very happy with my Black Dawn biggrin

Well I think the most important thing about any collection (especially watches) is that you (the collector) like the things in it.

From what I've seen most of your watches are certainly not to my taste, but I can definitely appreciate them for what they are, and understand why you like them.

As for cost, I couldn't care less how much a particular watch costs (or is worth), its all about whether I like it, and believe it is value for money for me. Which is of course totally subjective.

Everything and anything from Russian to Japanese (with a few swiss and American thrown in) smile Posted this picture before but what the hell...

changed alot since this old picture, mainly because I have run out of room hehe

A couple of specifics...
Seiko Wired XYZ "Basel" limited Edition (Number 153 of only 200 produced)

A shelf with a couple of the Oakley's, a Poljot Gagarin, Rosendahl Watch IV, Rare Spoon digital (cost £5 brand new!!) & a Fossil "Frank Gehry"...

Amongst the items here are a couple of Meridian watches (un-opened), an Android Alien, Luminox 3402 (Stealth Pilots watch), Uber rare Seiko Airpro, Briel etc...

Closer view of the Meridan watches...

I find high end swiss brands extremely nice (IWC would be my choice, money no object, an Urwerk) but at the same time after about 5 minutes I kinda loose the "cool" reaction and it just ends up being another watch. All be it extremely ing nice, but nothing out of the ordinary these days (2 of my collegues wear IWC's, another 5 wear Rolex).
To really grab my attention there must be 'something' there beyond the norm, be it totally unique or extremely fresh design, special materials used in the construction, 'icon' status within it's type range (Frogman is deffinatly an Iconic G-Shock), unique method of time measurment (check out the Japanese "Pimp" range), etc.

I try to wear every watch I own and often change everyday with a random "eeni meeni mini mo" mentallity to the switch. One day I could where a huge Titanium Oakley Time Tank, the next a small simple Japanese digital, the next a hand wound Russian chrono. If I wear a watch that garners attention I would rather it be the "Wow, what the hell is that/how does it work?" than the standard "Wow, that must have cost alot of money" commanded by the average 4 figure swiss models constantly bought by, it seems, everyone smile.

I guess I like my collection to be as unique as I can make it... and if anyone know's were I can find another AirPro let me know, I'm after a Bumblebee variation (Yellow/Black) hehe

That G-Shock is stunning welldone, wish i had one of those,

I have a G-Shock collection too, love them, they are not expensive, but quality, do not have the funds to have a highend swiss time piece collection, yet, was going to get a Planet Ocean, but put the funds to another cycle instead, it will get more use.

But i have started G-Shock browseing again now, which is a good thing.

Hi Ed,

I will take some shots for you tomorrow. True is when it arrived it went straight on my wrist and I've yet to take a single photo of it hehe

As for getting hold of one, well it took me bleeding forever rolleyes . I would suggest signing up to a few watch forums and keeping a very close eye on ebay. The proper limited 'Black Dawn' frogmen was only available to the Japanese market and they sold out almost instantly mostly on preorder. You can get the same colour variation now from casio USA. Unfortunatly they won't ship outside of the states and the american watch is not limited and doesn't come in the carbon/alloy casket.

Another great colour version to look out for is the 'Dolphin & the Whale' version with the blue case and white strap. It looks awesome and appears on ebay all the time.

Thanks Neil, im glad you like the watch so much you havent takne it off to photo!
My father is a pilot and is often in the states or middle east and i am going to ask him to keep an eye out as he loves a project. he is often just waiting around killing time awaiting the boss to decide where he wants to go next in his plane. he will like this task.

I like the look of the mudman too and at a greatly reduced price i may get this in the mean time until the desired frogman appears.
Thanks again and i will post pics as soon as i get one.
Ed.

As promised...

I also have a Mudman (just a standard model)...

Although it doesn't look it from this photo there really is a difference in size on the wrist. The Frogman is much more substantial...

Totally unconnected, here are a couple of shots of my Hamilton X-01...

Just for the fun of it here is a random shelf of the cabinet...

By the way, if your quick there is a GW-225A-1JF (Proper Japanese ltd version) listed on ebay right now with a £239 "buy it now". Sounds like a huge amount but beleive it or now they bid much, MUCH higher quite often...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Casio-G-shock-GW-225A-1JF-Fr...

However, may I suggest not going for the "Black Dawn" and maybe trying the "Master Blue" instead....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CASIO-G-SHOCK-FROGMAN-25TH-A...

Again it's a very limited model and to some eye's it's even better looking. It's also only £163 "buy it now" which is a total bargin!!!
