the wife asked what watch would i like for my birthday. i said a used rolex, she said go and look at some so i did. thing was, as much as i wanted to like a rolex i just had to be honest with myself and admit that i just didnt like any of them. what i did like straight away was an omega constellation automatic with 18ct and diamond numerals. somehow it didnt look quite so "LOADS OF MONEY" if you know what i mean. any way, how do they stack up in the world of watches?

Decent mid-tier Swiss maker, with a good history, esp. the Speedmaster Moon watch.

Have to say the one you describe doesn't sound overly macho ... wink

Omega watches are great, i have owned many and all have been tremendous time keepers. They are clearly more discreet than a Rolex, other brands you might consider that you might consider around the price you are looking at would be TAG or Breitling, also great watches for the price.

If you are happy with a second hand watch take a look at cartier as well.

happy shopping!

did look at a cartier and liked it, but was told they only buy in their movements as they dont make their own. was also told that i would just be buying an expensive braclet and not a "proper watch".

I love my Seamaster - was a present to myself Christmas 2000 (I was in the air force stationed in the Gulf for 4 months) and it has yet to put a foot wrong.

I had a Speedmaster Reduced (didn't fancy manual wind) for a while and it was great.

If you're going for a constellation you're more than likely looking at the coaxial movement which is amazing.

Go for it thumbup

Constellation is a piece of class. Very elegant when you're dressed up for a night out and it's not 'right' to wear a big sports watch like the Speedy/Seamaster/Rolex. I've got a Constellation, a Speedmaster and a Rolex Yachmaster, but the Constellation is by far the most elegant.

Seconded. Excellent watch, very accurate and unusual in comparison to Rolex.
