Rolex servicing?
Discussion
Hi
I have inherited a Rolex Oyster(10 years old) which needs a new battery at least, a link put into the the bracelet and maybe a service.
I have heard that it's best to send them back to Rolex but this could cost upto around £250.
Can anyone advise me please. Can I just take it to the nearest Jeweller that sells Rolex and ask them to get it going?
L.F.

Which Rolex do you have? What is the model name, it should be on the dial. Do you have the paperwork, if so what is the 5 figure model number. It should start with a 1 for gents, and 6 or 7 for a ladies or midsize.I have inherited a Rolex Oyster(10 years old) which needs a new battery at least, a link put into the the bracelet and maybe a service.

Hi
As you can tell I know nothing about watches! I have not worn one for at least 10 years since I lost my Swatch. I use my phone as a watch but I thought I might wear this Rolex occasionally if I got it working.
Anyway it's a Rolex Oyster Perpetual date white face and Roman numerals. Stainless.
Purchased Sept 1990. Model number : the box has a sticker - 15200. Is that it?
Thanks for the link - that must be where I got the £250 figure from.
I think you're telling me that it doesn't have a battery?

Yep the 'perpetual' bit signifies that it has a self-winding movement and doesn't require a battery.
I hope you enjoy it.
It should be an automatic (self-winding). You should be able to start it simply by wearing it (or winding it up manually). If it doesn't run then it probably needs servicing.
Omega servicing costs a similiar sum to the £250 quoted but included in this they replace anything required - even glass, and it comes back with a 24 month guarantee.
The watch is still worth circa £1k+ in running condition depending on actual spec, desirability etc.
If it doesn't run take it to a Rolex jeweller for him assessment etc.
These are not far from you ? http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/index.htm and they sell many used items.
