My local jeweller has a 2006 JLC Master Control in stock, model is 140.8.87 and it looks mint.

It's a 2006 watch and is apparently in such good shape as it was sold to a collector/enthusiast who chopped it in after a year.

Obviously I know what's on the ticket, but how much would you say sounds a fair price for such a watch?

Basically I like it, by which I mean I really, really like it!

Yep - just been looking at that very photo on your website (joys of Google Images).

OK, well mine is older than 2006, mine is 2002/03 (actually I'm quite surprised they were still making them in 2006 I thought they discontinued them before that).

I don't know what the original list price was but I doubt if it was over £3K. I have the Swiss 2007 price list here, and as an approximate comparison the Hometime (perhaps a more complicated movement) lists for CHF6,700 about £2,800.

I paid £1250 for mine as a private sale, with box and papers, in near perfect condition.

ETA I wouldn't sell it for that mind ... wink

I know it was sold new in 2006, not sure how long it may have been on display, they were a JLC dealer though.

The original price is what I can't find - can only see what Blowers shows as the replacement value.

Basically it's up at £1800. I'd hope I could get some off that as I know it's been in their cabinet for a few months.

I know you don't buy these things as an investment (in my case they lie about on the desk and I pick one to wear) but my main concern is if I could buy it, use it for a few years and expect it to be worth close to (say 70% or so) of what I may pay for it. Of course I may just keep it until I die unless there's some pressing need for the money or a trade.

Yes, buy it, it's gorgeous. I'd be tempted to trade my Breitling for that.

So easy to say "Buy it" when it's someone else's money smile

Just been having a nosey in a Patek/AP dealer and spoke to the lady in there as their other branch sells JLC.

She checked and they had a 2006 catalogue with the Master Date in it. Identical looking watch but a slightly different model number, and the list price on that was £3700. Whilst I'm not sure how long it may have been in stock before it was sold, she seemed to think £1800 was a damned good price for that watch considering that it is still within manufacturers warranty, though if I brought it I would want a 12 month minimum off the Jewellers.

I've been down this morning for another look.

The watch is basically mint, some wear on the strap which is to be expected. Boxes and all manuals as new etc.

They want £1800 firm, and would give a 2 year guarantee.

Tbh I went in expecting to buy it, but for some reason I decided to think about it again and take the gamble it'll be there a few more days yet.

That is a great price for a beautiful piece - if you decide not to take the plunge let me know where the watch is and I'll have that one myself...wink
