All,

I am considering buying a 1968 ladies Rolex as a gift for a 40th birthday and have seen a few online ranging from £2100 to £2400. Is this a fair price and, most importantly, is this a good purchase? Can anyone suggest any other watches from that year for up to £2500 as another option?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have to be frank, I see no value (other than sentiment) in a £2500 1960's ladies Rolex. Other than certain West End stores who are selling these pieces, have a look on eBay a typical price for a ladies steel is c£6-800. I recently sold a '64 ladies Date with white gold bezel in superb condition at around £800.
Also have a look at the major auction houses( Sothebys, Christies, Antiquorum etc) and see how much this type of watch is selling for.
My thoughts are that you are paying £2500 for a £600 watch. Have a look around and you should find a nice piece at a sensible price.
