Looking at the more plain Classic Pointer and Big Crown models on leather straps.

Seems to be a respected enough brand, a little history, stock ETA movement but very nicely styled and finished dials and cases at good prices?

Any thoughts?

I really rate them - I have two, this Oris Pointer Date:

For some reason I find it impossible to take a good picture of this watch,; and this BC3:

They are great, nicely made and finished, and (after a bit of effort) very reliable. The pointer date went back about three times in the first 18 months I had it, but after that it was my only watch for about eight years, worn daily, never missed a beat. The BC3 was the start of an obsession with watches ...

Oddly I'm wearing the pointer date today.

You are right the movements are basically stock ETA, though I think they must modify on the GMT version at least. As for history they do have one great claim to fame, they have only ever made mechanical watches, no quartz in the Oris history.

Oh, and incredible value for money. You may also want to look at Stowa and Nomos, both on my radar at the moment.

much better than most imagine. Movements are nothing to fancy , just good workers and excellent value.

And i believe you can get them discounted a lot.

I have an XXL Worldtimer with the dual time/GMT function which I really like and in my opinion is the easiest to operate and read form of analogue dual time watch. Only had it about six months so it maybe too early to tell on the reliability front but so far ok!

So far my shortlist seems to be Oris, O&W 2801, and the Stowa Antea Kleine Sekunde.
