tag heuer autavia - bargain story
Discussion
I went shopping with my girlfriend today and we ended up in a tag heuer factory store who had discontinued models.
They had a brand new tag heuer autavia with black dial and metal strap.
Cost me £1000 (vs £2500 when they were new 2 years ago).
I was not at all going to buy a watch but at this price, i jumped on the opportunity.
Here is a link as to how it looks like:

I already have rolex explorer2 and classic breguet type XX. So I am sort of starting a small collection, without really planning it.
Only thing i know is it has a calibre 11 automatic movement. i did not have the chance to think too much, it was take it or leave it!
What are the thoughts around this autavia?
Any thoughts, opinions welcome...

any idea where i can get the leather strap with folding buckle that was also available with this watch? I think it was black with red or orange stitching. I understand tag' s official prices are horendous, so any idea of altarnatives welcome....
got a picture of it? there are loads of sites that do very good quality replacement straps, i'm sure we'll find something pretty close!!535dman, you got me... this is where i got it from.
I took a 'bigger picture' approach to buy this watch: it is from a reputable watch maker, it looked good to me, it is automatic with a reasonable calibre (11). It was probably way to expensive at the retail price 2 years ago, but at £1000 i thought i could not go far wrong. They told me they got refill from the factory every now and then. So there will be a few more of these watches for sell.
But at the end of the day, if this model was not too popular, maybe they made less of them.
It still does not tell me what people think about this model.

Thanks to my wife, I frequent there quite a bit and everytime I've been in they've had it in stock, and it's the only model that has never changed place, hence thought it's the same one!
If you like the "retro" style it's a very good watch and one which you could probably flog after a few years without loosing too much. IMHO I never thought it was worth the list price.
I saw a Tag Mercedes Mclaren SLR Chrono for sale in Goldsmiths Uxbridge in the sales for £1150 which is a massive 50% off list price....it didn't sell in the sales and is now back up with the full price watches for it's full price......I missed a right bargain there

for me this is the type of purchases that appeal to me, I like so many different watches that if I see one with 50% off thats more important to me than paying list price for a watch I particulary desire. I got my Tag Carrera Twin time for £ 850 and list was £ 1450.00
Anybody know of any great bargins elsewhere

535dman, one day, you' ll get back there and it won' t be there anymore (the autavia)... you' ll have missed 2 bargains!
Now i need to buy the leather strap. They said £90 for the (plain) leather strap in black with orange stitching, and £60 for the clasp... hum that sounds a bit 'rich'... If anyone has any idea on how to get something decent at reasonable price.
Straps are one of these things... Either way too expensive (was toying with the idea of brown croc but original item is nearly £300 without the clasp) or cheapos around £15, which really look like cheapos. I would have thought that £50-£100 should have been a decent amount to get something good looking??
