Bought my 1st Omega Seamaster Chronometer last year for my 30th, and now have been bitten by the watch bug!

Been looking at a Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic in a local jewellers, black faced, stainless steel strap. List is £1695 however after a bit of haggling they will do it at £1495.

Whats the opinion on here of the Carrera ?

Really nice watch, i am not really a fan of modern tags, but for this watch i make an exception, it is one i would like to own.

I have a black faced Carrera chronograph with the silver Daytona dials and croc strap and I love it. It's understated, classy, not over-sized and with a proper motorsport history.

Whats the motorsport history? I'm aware that TAG used to be the official timing of F1 and they sponsor Lewis Hamilton. Is there any more ?

I have a classic (re-issue) Carrera and love it to pieces.

Ever since the came out I knew I wanted one - it is simple chrono design with a fantastic heritage.

Fangio wore one in the Targa Florio - I beleive. Heuer anyway before Tag got involved and that was in the 50s (when Fangio wore one) - they go way back before.

I'm sure wikipedia would give more info.

Mine is identical to the one pictured above.

As for the motorsport connection, if I remember correctly this model was first launched in 1964 and dedicated to the legendary race Carrera Panamericana Mexico Races in 1950's where drivers like Juan Manuel Fangio used to complete. If Steve McQueen had worn this instead of the similarly dedicated Monaco, they'd cost half as much again!

Probably!

That's my dainty wrist - I love the Tag.

I love the classic heuer carreras, even the reissue models.

The classics and reissue models are about 36mm, which is too small for me.

The new model is bigger at 41mm

I quite like it but is very similar to my speedy pro.

Nice watches. Prefer the originals (you can get them on the net).

Nearly bought one (reissue) a few years ago. Dealer couldn't get hold of the model I wanted and suggested a Zenith instead. Class El Primero, looked similar to the Tag and was around the same price at the time...if you're getting bitten by the bug (as I had), something like that might be a better buy....

Nice watches, I think. I've got the "Jack Heuer" edition, which is the 1964 - 2004 40th anniversary one with a silver face and two dark grey subdials.

I really rate the Carrera and was soooo close to buying one earlier this year. Ended up with a Zenith elite instead, but still like the Carrera.

I got my Carrera last December and absolutely love it.

Went for the brown leather strap version with the brown face and bezel. Glad I did as I've never spotted many in shop windows or seen one on anyones wrist.

Got a nice bit of discount on it through work as well.

This is the one - http://tag-heuer.watchfinder.co.uk/classic_carrera...

I say go for it, you won't regret it!

My Carrera twin time auto - 8 months old, 1600 quid, is currently losing 5 mins per month. not too impressed with that! it's going back in for some tuning very soon.... oh, bought legit in Jones' Colchester IIRC.
