I'm looking for a decent watch to replace my ageing Tag that has just given up the ghost, has it since I was 21, 16 years of constant wearing and abuse is pretty good, so well done Tag. Anyway, I want something to replace it, don't want to spend more than 2k and it has to be durable, be classy without shouting its expensive, be waterproof, stainless and above all look good

Thoughts?

What do you mean by waterproof? Unless you get one of those oil filled jobs no watch is actually waterproof.

A few more questions to help:

1. day/date?
2. chronograph?
3. any size fetishes? smile

I'd proabably go IWC - Flieger or Aquatimer tick the boxes for me.

I've worn my Submariner daily for 2 years now. Knocked about, used in the gym, biking, running, swimming etc etc etc. Odd minor scratch but it keeps on going.

My Omega Seamaster Professional has been almost permanently on my wrist for 9 or so years and goes everywhere I go, including underwater etc (when I'm not wearing the Porsche Design PO11 which I use when I do not expect to be doing much activity). I get the Omega serviced maybe every 2 1/2 years when the battery packs up. I would NOT recommend the auto as it has a reputation for being troublesome. R.

A few more questions to help:

1. day/date? yes preferably
2. chronograph? it'd be nice but not essential
3. any size fetishes? smile yes no BBW's!
I like the Omega seamaster etc, how does it compare to some of the tag's? I plan on getting a Rolex submariner or daytona next year anyway but this watch is going to be purely for everyday knocking about

For knocking about, no worries too much about style, I use a Breitling Superocean. I know I could buy a Seiko much cheaper and an IWC much dearer, but this watch has proved to be tough, reliable, and pretty accurate over the years (excepting I am on my second due to unfriendly house visitors). Quite frankly, most of the watches on sale now are pretty reliable and the world is your oyster, as the previous posts show. I am not pushing Breitling, just saying that as a "diver's type watch" it has served, and continues to serve me well.

Id try and get a nearly new/used IWC Pilots chrono ...I had a Seamaster for a few years, great watch, but after 2 years of daily wear it really needed re-finishing....Ive now been wearing the IWC (steel on bracelet) for 2 years and it looks like new...theres not a mark on it, and I wear it when working on the car, DIY ..everything - dunno what steel they use or how they finish them, but its the most durable Ive come across

I'd definitely go along with the Omega Seamaster Professional Chronometer - has to be the full size jobie! I have a black faced one which I definitely prefer to the 'James Bond' look in blue that I used to own.

Like the rest of the guys here it's pretty much not left my wrist for a few years. A great, durable, wear every day watch.

4 years wearing an Omega speedie here.

Its been around the world a few times, gets bashed about when i do DIY, gets knocks and scrapes of every day life.

the "glass" needs a polish back once a year but everything else looks new.

Ohh, and paperbag never serviced either, keeps as good a time as the next speedie hehe

Edit - FWIW my Father has been wearing an Omega Speedmaster II every day since 1971 when he bought it from Brent Cross. All his working career as a machine engineer and weekend sailor. You would never guess from looking at it that it was that old or worn that much!!!

Yes I agree it is good, quite like a Tag on there with a black face, but also quite like the idea of the Omega speedmaster pro.

Any other decent sites worth checking out?
