Hi All

My wife has decided that for my 30th birthday she would like to buy me a very nice watch, on top of this we are going to NY for my birthday in December. So putting 2 and 2 together + the good exchange rate, I am wondering if there are any good shops to buy from in New York?

Regards
Ben

I've got the same plan for September and have asked on here earlier (see thread "Buying overseas&quotwink but haven't had any detailed replies as yet.

Anyone?

Apparently if you are sporting an expensive watch or piece of jewellery the customs people will stop you and check the cctv to see if you were wearing it upon arival, so they can tax you if you were not.
get rid of the receipts for the watch and post the box and manuals home from new york.

But just because you weren't wearing it on arrival it doesn't mean to say you didn't travel with it. It's flawed logic.

Recommend Tourneau on the corner opposite Macy's.

Not the one near Dior and all the other posh shops, the one near macys is smaller and much better. Haggle like a good 'un and you might get a great deal like I did!

Great service, hope you find that also.

(I got a treat there for my 30th this year too, spooky!)

I tried the two Tourneaus in NYC for a Panerai and was deeply disappointed by the service (I actually was generally severly disappointed by the service I received pretty much everywhere during my 4 week stay in NYC + California).

I arrived wearing shorts and a t-shirt, i'm fairly young (24yo), they just didn't take me seriously. When they realised I wasn't talking bullshit, they located the Panerai I was looking for at the other Tourneau shop (on 6th av I believe). I went there and guess what, no sign of the watch. They had no idea where it was...And they didn't even bother to apologise, or offer to call me when they found it.

Needless to say I didn't buy the Pan in the States, in stead I got it from my usual dealer in Belgium, with a 12% discount...
