Oris - comments on this please
Discussion
I have two Orises - a BC3 Day Date and a nolder Pointer Date - I like thwm a lot, they definitely punch above their weight, they look a lot more expensive than they actually are.
The older Oris (Pointer Date) - bought new for me by my wife was a bit troublesome at first and went back two or three times, but has now been faultless for about 8 years.
To post pictures you need to hst them somewhere on the internet and then include the link to the image between [pic] and [/pic] tags, e.g.
is my BC3 - if you quote my post you'll see how its done.

What movement does Oris use?
ETA/Valjoux base.Check www.oris.ch for details - they are (unlike some) very open about the base movement they use. No idea how much they "add" not a lot I suspect.

In the second one Oris get a mention for the quality of their finishing of the base movement.

I like it that much I have tried 2 shops and both said they couldnt get one. Good job really because I recon if I had got it in my hands I would have had to buy it

I enquired about one of these last week, was told by one of a large chain of shops that they had an alotment of 40 from 2000 for their customers, and on a list of first come basis, i have passed on it, although it is a stunning watch and is £1.6K retail, I like it that much I have tried 2 shops and both said they couldnt get one. Am I missing something, or are these really good value watches? They look great, seem to have good movements and have been around for over 100 years.
Looking for a mid-sized chrono for my son's 10th birthday - this may just be the brand.
Spot on they are extremely good value watches. Very well made look and feel very nice.Looking for a mid-sized chrono for my son's 10th birthday - this may just be the brand.
As always worth getting on ein your hand to check you (he) like it in the metal. I must say I would have thought a 7750 based chrono would be a bit big for a 10 year old, but there you go, just my opinion, ...
Hi Terius
know what you about 'in the metal'. The Carlos Coste Limited Edition is ENORMOUS.
I've got 4 months to sort out a watch for my son - but agree that any mid size may just be too big still. I expect he would prefer a quartz 'Transformers' or other such branded watch!! We'll see.

I've got an Oris F1 Team (freebie from work). Not bad for the money (I think this one retails at around £400) but not in the same class as my admittedly much more expensive Omega Speedmaster. The sharp edged casing marks up too easily, it's not particularly good at keeping time and the strap is cheap and nasty. But it has been reliable over the 3 years I've had it. Overall not a bad watch, but nothing special.
