Hi

I am thinking of getting this watch :-

http://www.chronolux.com/catalog/product_info.php?...

This is to replace my SS Daytona (white face with black sub dials).

What I would like to know is will this watch hold its money? I am dubious of a 19k retail price, with the site selling at 11k.

The SS Daytona has happily appreciated in value for the last couple of years, and I would like to have the same "safe" feeling from this.

I absoultely adore this watch, but cannot afford to lose money on it.

Also, should I swap to this watch is it better to sell the Daytona privately or can I negotiate a trade in price?

thanks

BJM

The market for a second hand JLC is very small compared to Rolex. Finding the right buyer could be more difficult if you have to sell on and selling back to the trade might be your only option. Losing money? Probably.

Great watch, great manufacturer....The discount is real enough as the watch is a high-end,discontinued model. What is it worth in the future? Less, and increasingly less with use/age.

This is a completely different proposition to the Rolex Daytona. You can't buy a new Daytona at list, that's why the watch has a premium on new and used.

Simple supply and demand. Daytona is almost impossible to buy, hence strong residuals, and the Jaeger didn't sell hence the large discount.

I'm sure you'll get a p/x value on the Daytona but you'll do better yourself.

I think you'll lose money on the deal long term....Dom.

Have you considered a used Patek Philippe 5035 Annual Calendar?

I have a used (but near mint) JLC that I bought on TZ, for a great price (I thought).

This one:

They are utterly gorgeous watches, as someone on TZ said "95% of a Patek for 50% of the price" however, they definitely don't hold their value in the way you want.

Worth keeping a close eye on the sales corner on TZ though or even posting a want to buy.

Beautiful watch Tertius. If one was to buy from a seller on TZ what would be the easiest way to, ahem, reduce the possible 'extra costs' associated with sending such a purchase into the U.K.?
