want to buy a new watch, mainly for putting salesmen in their place biggrin

so ignoring all the rights and wrongs, i want this watch to make a statement about how much money i have (yeah i know this is sooooooooooooo shallow , but there is a point to it) and the lifestyle choices i make. I'm hardly goign to wear it, but just occasionally it needs to give off the right signals of money, discreet, refined not too showy. I'm not going to bother going into it, but basically i'm trying to construct a persona to pull off certain deals.

so:

Rolex? breitling etc etc What watch says what about you nowadays?

which one, gonig on the fact that i might have a few grand to spend.

i'm still keeping my £12 casio for every day use.

Salesmen will recognise a Rolex - all else, no matter how 'good' is just second best for impressing someone who probably knows nothing about watches.

How much is 'a few grand'? 2k and it's a Rolex - 10k and yo uhave lots more choice (almost all less recognisable than a 2k rolex though).

Pretty sad reason to buy a watch though, IMO.

A subtle rolex sub or stainless daytona(if funds permit), sales reps will recognise any cartier watch as well.. breitlings will also be recognised, panaeri and iwc are superb watches but the average rep will not understand or realise how expensive they are?? patek phillipes are out of the average reps knowledge as well.....

Its quite a while since I have heard something as shallow or as sad as this... Its almost pathetic!

But... If you really want to buy something to create a persona you need something that people would recognise... Guess Rolex or as suggested something like a Monaco. For the reasons you are saying go for a fake rolex, no one will know anyway and that seems image is what you care about!

Also, I dont think a watch says anything about lifestyle choice! I dont think mine say anything about me other than I liked certain designs...

Sad, shallow and pathetic. Yep that about sums it up.

I think someone has issues. If you're only concerned about creating a fake persona buy a fake watch. Get a life.

eta, how is wearing an expensive watch going to put a salesman in his place, and are you that threatened by salesmen that you need to hide behind a watch rolleyes

whatever the rights and wrongs, the way you dress and look DOES say something about you and sometimes the first impression really really counts. I don't like it, but whinging about it doesn't make it better.

Usually i look like a complete mess and don't give a shit what people think of me, BUT when it comes to business i will do anything to give me an edge, and if this age includes having to appear like a shallow stuck up prick, then that's fine by me.

Listen carefully because this is important, alot of the people i deal with in some of my business areas are very very shallow but control a huge amount of money. If you don't do the whole "well off, moneyed, golf thing" then you are at a disadvantage- i don't like it, i'd rather turn up in trainers and a t-shirt, but i still have to play the game.

i do quite fancy a nice watch too that will last the rest of my life.

let me sum this up- i want a watch that makes me look like a shallow stuck up prick, so that other shallow stuck up pricks feel more comfortable around me and find it easier to accept me. this will help me get more work off them. Not bothered if you guys don't understand this.

Sounds to me like you need a new job, not a new watch!!!

Yes, impressions can count, but you dont need to be a tt! I hardly ever wear a suit or anything, and I certainly wouldnt dream of trying to create an 'image' and that approach doesnt seem to effect my earning potential etc...

Forget the watch get a better job!

love my job- it's brilliant being self employed.

unfortunately sometimes i just have to look the part- it's really not something i have done in the past, but i "beleieve" it will be useful in the future.

I could be wrong- but i will find out in the future!

Buy a fake Rolex, should do the job and save you enough money for some sunbed fake tans and new designer suits from TK Max.

TBH usually the only people who think their watch says something about themselves are those who judge others by their watches clothes etc.

Perhaps you should have a bit more confidence in your ability. I doubt any watch will help you much in your buisness.

This whole thread is a bit sad really.
